my friend and i are going on a trip to munich by hitch-hiking, has anyone here ever done this before? what are the chances of stopping a car in poland and what kind of automobiles are most likely to give you a ride? my friend and i would really appreciate if anyone could share some information. thx

don't use your thumb, hold your hand in an effectual "gay" pose and tap it towards the road-lame but that's how it works here.
Use a sign.
It helps if you or your friend is pretty.
Who will stop for you depends on your appearance and who's driving on whatever days you're hitching.
Be smart.

Honest advice ?

Don't do it. Public transport is cheap in Poland and it's better to spend a few zloty then to be picked up by a psychotic murderer.

Then again, maybe I watch too many movies....

oh yes, u watch too many...;)
hitch-hiking is the best in germany, in poland there should be no problem too.
use big cardboard or sth to write on it and with big capital letters write the name of the closest place u want to reach.if u go from lublin to berlin dont write berlin, just choose closer town and do it step by step.u dont need to use your thumb;)
be clean;) and dont take too much luggage with u...
i used to travel by hitch-hiking within europe and i think its safe but have your eyes opened;)
anything else u want to know- email me.
good luck!;)

thx guys, unfortunately some **** happened and it seems that we r not able to travell all the way to munich this time. so instead we will hitch only within the territory of poland this may holiday, itīs true that the price of public transportation is quite resonable but hitchhiking could be more fun, and we r ready to try out our luck:) so where are u people? is there anybody interested in meeting up just in case we drop up in ur town,:) we r a chinese and spanish team, both of us are student in gdansk!

as some people said above - the best is the sign with the city u head on.i think that tracks stop quite often n it's quite helpful cos they've got radio to be in touch with other drivers so sometimes if u meet a nice guy he can ask others if they are going to ur destination :) but one advice is try to look "clean" lol cos some people are simple afraid to take hitchkikers.Good luck guys!I live in poznan,if u want to drop in :) I live in the market square just next door to the nice hostel :) i can show u around nice pubs!! :)
