Clean, safe, comfortable hotels to stay in Warsaw?

I am looking for something clean, safe, comfortable, quiet and not too expensive. Somewhere in between in regards to price. Maybe a four star - when the maximum rating is 5. Any ideas?

Hilton is hard to beat in the four-star class.

Karina,

I have just come back from a 3 day break to Warsaw. I would thoroughly recommend the Polonia Palace which cost abour £ 70 per night.

It's a true 4 star hotel. In my opinion, the other 4/5 star hotels in Warsaw cater primarily to business men and this is reflected in the design of these hotels i.e. tall, glass sky scrapers. The Polonia Palace is totally different and very very classy.

I had a room overlooking the Palace of Culture and I soon discovered that it's also only a 7 minute walk to the Zloty Terrace shopping centre which is packed with coffee bars, restaurants and shops.

Room rates are significantly cheaper at the weekend but you MUST shop around on the internet. Find as many websites as you can and compare the prices as there are big differences in price. Some were quoting me £ 120 per night (and this was one of the biggest hotel websites online). Even the Polonia Palace's own website was charging £ 150 !!

The Polonia is a nice hotel. But you did well to find that price during the week.

A little background about the Polonia from my guide:
Founded by a family of aristocrats, the Polonia Palace originally opened in 1913, the first hotel in Warsaw to feature running water in each room and a modern central heating system. The inter-war years marked a golden age for the hotel and it became known as a celebrity haunt. It escaped WWII unscathed, with General Eisenhower hosting a victory banquet here in 1945, and many ambassadors taking up residence in the immediate aftermath of the war. After years operating as a glum state-run hotel the Polonia has once more resumed its position as one of Warsaw’s most luxurious hotels.

I usually stay at my mate's place, but the first couple of times that I visited Warsaw on business, I stayed at the Premiere Class, which is cheap (under PLN 200 a night). It was pretty basic, but otherwise clean and modern polhotels.com/warsz/PremiereClasse/

Harry,

The Polonia really does have an air of pedigree about it which is something that the business style 5 star hotels can never have.

It took me over a week of browsing the internet every day to find that price-I think I booked through cityhotelsdirect. I asked if I could request a room overlooking the Palace of Culture but the website said that isn't possible (although I knew it was possible from the last time I stayed there).

Three years ago I stayed at the Polonia for one night and treated myself to a meal at the hotel restaurant. The decor was very opulent and they even had a pretty harpist in the corner.
