The decline of Krakow due to British drunks and What to see in Krakow?

Having read some reports about the decline of Krakow due to British Drunken Yobs spoiling the city as a result of their pathetic behaviour, I am very wary of my up coming visit this coming week 06th to 13th August 2008. I also read in a daily newspaper (Mirror or Star) on Friday 01st August 2008, that the Mayor of Krakow does not want British Yobs visiting and is looking to attract a more sophisticated traveller, even saying he would prefer the "QUOTE" pink tourist i.e. gay or any wealthy tourists whom will spend a lot of money. I myself am not gay but I do love culture and I also respect other peoples cultures in fact I relish learning about other cultures. My main reason for visiting Krakow is to visit Aushcwitz to learn and see first hand the terrible past suffering of millions of innocents. I am also teetotal and only occasionally drink alcohol when I am abroad, and unlike the British Louts whom let the United Kingdom down I can take my drink ! Do you know why ? Because I know when to stop, and when to stop is long before you feel ill or act irrational. All I can say is Shame on the British Public and on our own Government for allowing it's citizens get so out of hand that they can't be controlled. On a final note can anyone give me some tips on what to do and see

frank666: can anyone give me some tips on what to do and see Hello Frank, There are very many things to do in Krakow, it all depends on what interests you. I would recommend visiting Aushcwitz on the last day of your trip, it is depressing and will probably depress the hell out of you. There are some good English people, I think I met one the summer of 91' but he was originally from Scotland, ha ha ha. There is plenty of information on here that should aid you on your search, it is annoying to go somewhere, in fear of people judging you because of some Louts but I am sure you will have a wonderful time.

On a final note can anyone give me some tips on what to do and see Thank You Frank Im English Im not a yob and there are plenty like me who visit Krakow, I saw are few dickheads but they are in the minority. Sean is right about visiting Aushcwitz, it is most certainly best to visit at the end of the holiday as it can make you feel rather sad. Visit the salt mines when you get there, they are worth going to see (personally I found the tour a bit long winded but it was quite amazing) Visit the Jewish district, lots of lovely bars and places to eat and so much to do and see. Krakow is a wonderful city there is no denying that and I can assure you that one visit will not satisfy you.

There is nothing to be "wary" of Frank. If you carry around a copy of the "Mirror" or the "Daily Star" under your arm, I do not think the Mayor of Krakow will mistake you for a sophisticated tourist. Have a good holiday.

Seroiusly though, Auschwitz shouldn't be at the top of your list in my opinion. Hang out in the town square, drink the (not so cheap) beer, look at the chicks, feed the pigeons and relax

tornado2007: well i'm sure sooner or later we will have somebody write that the reason Krakow is going down hill is due to the British :):):):) Sometimes the Poles love to blame everybody else apart from themselves :) Yeah, Krakow is going up!. It just needs to sort out a few things. In Dublin we had the same problem with stag dos. Or should I just let everyone beat up the Brits, hhhmmm possibly lay in a boot or two myself, lol

Street food, beer food and a couple of French or Itilian places, being the exception. frank666: way they live Emm, Yeah, ok. frank666: how they relate to visitors Well just do not expect everyone to speak English. I remember meeting some Brits who thought the bartendress was impolite because she did not speak English, she was my friend. I am sure you will be fine. frank666: the architecture Simply wonderful, I recommend looking at a map of the centre of Krakow now and you will see the medieval layout, castle on top of hill, the green going around the market square used to be a mote. I think very often people do not see the millions of well behaved tourists and focus on the minority. Tourism is great and all tourists are welcome and will have a great time and hopefully spend their money.
