Traveling to poland for four weeks!

Hi all. Im off to poland on tuesday for four weeks to see my girlfriend and meet her mum in Konin. Then we will be heading down to Zakopane for a week. We might go to Cracow and then up in pozan for two weeks to live where she is studying. Can anyone tell me what i can expect and maybe ideas for things to do? any advise is of great help! Are trains safe at night? I hear people get robed at night ps...i wish i found this site a long time ago!
