English people working in Poland

Hi I would like some info in relation to english people working and living in Poland. I have been considering it as an option for quite some time, however, given my specific skill set (and current lack of Polish language skills) I would be interested to know whether there are possible opportunities to be had. I work in the legal profession in the UK, so at present, I don't know whether there are opportunities for UK lawyers, either working in Polish firms, european firms based in Poland or alternatively in-house for Polish companies expanding into wider Europe. I would be interested to hear from any other UK nationals who have already made the move to poland, how they found it, how long it took to settle and where I should begin researching my interest! It wouold be good to hear from a few ppl with their experiences.

There are quite a few Brits like me floating around on this forum. Poland is not the best country to set up shop as a lawyer. I have an LLM and contact with Polish judges and they say it's hard. I also met with the Head of Court in Rybnik and had a private lunch with her. She said u need more than ur fair share of lucky breaks. If I were u, I'd look elsewhere, like Brussels. If u were fluent in Polish, I might change my tune.

i read recently about applying for Polish citisenship is that you have to be from EU country.If I am from non EU country but i live un Europe (the Republic of Kosova new country in Europe) my question is that can I apply for Polish eu citisenship and Passaport

Been thinking about it as my other half is originally from PL, we love it over there - we are over at every opportunity. Bought some land 7 or 8 years ago just outside of Poznan and would love to rent the house out here in the UK and just spend a few years quality time with the family, learning new things and experiencing the culture (which I love) - Only issue is the job. Seanus - I hear what you say. As a qualified UK solicitor, I was hoping to get something in-house as opposed to working for the judiciary. Doesn't Lech need a UK lawyer??? I would love that! :-)

No chance at this firm; When they want a UK-qualified lawyer, they recruit a Pole who is a UK-qualified lawyer as well as Polish-qualified. Or rather they recruit a Pole who is a US-qualified lawyer and has taken the conversion course to become UK-qualified. I do know a few British lawyers working Warsaw, well, a couple anyway, but they tend to be senior associate level and transferred within the firm. Your best bet is probably going to be teaching legal English.

toneson: Hmm, not great. Teaching legal English is easy money if you know your stuff. Go direct to the companies and you can easily charge GBP 40 for a 90-minute lesson. Two of those a day and the bills are well and truly paid.

We are a young British / Spanish couple (28 -30) and we have been approached to work in the retail business in Poland. Can any one advise on the living conditions there, in terms of social seen and things to do for young people? Also are there low cost airline flights to the rest of Europe?

What cities are you thinking about? Have you ever been to Poland before? It might be worth making a few visits before taking the plunge. As for low-cost airlines.... take your pick: Wizz, Central Wings, Easy Jet, Ryan Air, Norwegian, BMI Baby. Also worth checking BA when they are running special deals.
