In poland it seems common place for the not so fortunate to collect tin cans "Beer cans"
is anyone able to tell me how much they get per can?

Just wondering.

1 kg = 3 - 5 zł

1kg = 67cans x 0.33l or 53cans x 0.5l

Hey, there's no shame in recycling. Have you thought about copper? People make a few extra $$$ around here on copper too.

I'm not against recycling at all. We did that in Poland at least since early 1970's. I even got a thank you letter from school for recycling. I recycled glass bottles for cash too. But I was 10 at the time and wanted to save up some money for books. It worked, but it wasn't the most effective way.

I did it too but it wasn`t exactly recycling. The collected bottles were refilled after washing.

Yes, today I make a living in a different way.

I save my Aluminun cans and give them to this homeless guy.

Now Copper thats a different story, I`ll pick scrap up off jobsites like old gutters, plumbing
and roof flashings, I can make an extra hundred bucks with one load.

At $1.25 per pound its adds up quick:)

I'm waiting for the price of copper to go up. (Actually I'm not really keeping an eye on it). I do have a load of copper pipes in my shed and I also have the ability to do a bit of plumbing here and there and replace copper with plastic pipe, but that would feel a bit like selling the family silver. Not that I inherited the stuff directly.

One of my vices is that I drink expensive coffee that comes in aluminium tins. I was saving these up until a certain someone threw a year's worth away without me noticing until it was too late. It still builds up fairly quickly. People tell me to recycle. I'll send glass off to be recycled, but certainly not valuable metals.

I thought it was going up...mainly due to people stealing the stuff from the wiring of electric sub stations and railway lines....

Tell us the whole truth how you got it :)

When I lived in NYC a buddy of mine, a contractor, complained that one night someone stole all the brand new copper gutters and rain piping from a 6 story building. Also gone were most water pipes inside. They had been installed over a period of a few weeks, just a couple days prior to the theft. He was pissed off and yet he admired the skill of the thieves who were able to strip the building overnight.

In Ontario municipalities and electrical utilities companies complain about continuous theft of wiring, aluminum road signs etc. The losses go in the millions.
