Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations

Hi. My current bank, which will remain nameless, has aged me about 10 years in the last year with their ability to 'mess' the simplest of transactions up. Can anyone let me know of any good experiences with banks or any recommendations as it might be time to change. Key things: - Ability to get things right the first time(or second time at a push) - Good internet banking service.

Millenium are professional but impose little charges here, there and everywhere. mBank are ur best bet

Hi Vinny, and Happy New Year Let me guess ;-) The good lady wife uses MBank and says they are very good. However I am expecting HSBC to launch a branch operation here in the coming months ( I for one can't wait! ) so may be worth hanging on to see. I attended a market research on it recently and it will be aimed at professionals, wheter that will mean they show the same remains to be seen. I use Millenium and have a high interest savings account in Lukas Bank, which covers my bank charges for Millenium, so in effect I have free banking :O)

I am very happy with Citibank Handlowy. Their internet banking in English works well. If I need to call their call centre, there is always an English speaker on the other end of the line. When I visit the branch, there is very rarely a queue. Charges are not too bad.

I'm another happy Citibank user. The internet banking works well and the telephone banking is even better; all the automated stuff is in English and they always have operators who speak good English. My business account is with BPH and I was far less impressed with them, took five visits to the branch before I got full access to internet and telephone banking! Would have left but their internet banking works fairly well and their branch is in the same building as my office. Now they've been taken over by Pekao and the BetterHalf has had nothing but trouble with those wankers. I reckon I'll be off to mBank instead.

Bank Zachodni bzwbk.pl excellent internet banking facilities in English of course. Unfortunately cock ups occur in every office establishment in Poland its not the banks fault only the idiot sitting behind the desk.

Agree with you Wroclaw boys ....but there seems to be a huge number of idiots sitting behind desks....Thats the problem......!!! I have the internet banking from BZ WBK and it is great. I am relunctant to move for that reason. I just have to avoid dealing with any actual people behind desks. Thanks for all recommendations.

I'm an expat living in Lodz. WBK (as Wroclaw Boy suggested above) is very expat user friendly. I'm very happy with it.

I am actually with WBK. While all staff are pleasant, their ability(or lack of) to follow up anything is unreal. I am not demanding but the hassle i have had with the simplest of things. And i have dealt with a number of branches and they all seem to be the same. Their internet banking is great thought.

i'm with s.h.i.t.t.y bank (sorry citibank). they charge me when i put money in and 4,99pln everytime i use the hole in the wall. it's like they're doing me a favour by holding my money! from everything i've heard mbank looks like the best bet. i'm going to close my s.h.i.t.t.y bank account if for no other reason than the trolley dolly-esque women behind the desks are sour-faced and ruin my morning everytime i'm unfortunate enough to go in there. at the end of the day, though, they're all bankers

Not worth the hassle of opening an account here. The simplest transaction in any bank takes about an hour of standing in line and two hours of trying to explain to a blank faced teller what you want. Maybe they should save money and make customers happier by just putting cardboard cutouts of smiley, happy people behind the desks? Probably the same amount of enquiries would get resolved. Internet banking rules! Until it goes wrong that is.

I use Inteligo (part of PKO BP) for about 4 years and I've never been to a bank during that time. I have no problems with my account doing everything through internet. I recomend it.

I don't trust banks. It is that you HAVE to use them, otherwise I would not use them. They are bandits. M-G

I use Nordea Bank, which is Swedish-owned and has a few branches in Warsaw. I changed to them 3 years ago after having endless problems with Citibank. They're quite friendly, and the internet service is good.

I do not like or trust banks. Every bank always rolls out the red carpet when you give them money, but good luck getting your money when you want to use it! I think they intentionally stall to make more money off yours. I closed an account in a day and it took almost 2 weeks for the cash? Thank you for the banking information in Poland. Other people's experiences really expose a banks reputation.

They always rustle up an English speaker when I call, and are generally friendly and efficient. They might not be so great outside of Wielkapolska though, due to the fact that only certain machines are free to use.
