A Brit living in Poland (update)

I would just like to set the record straight.

Apart from all the issues which I have listed here on this very forum and the many absolutely infuriating policies of which this country has in place I would like to apologise for my blind sceticism and lowering of the Polish nation as a whole.

I do believe that most foreigners new to living in this country would and will experience the same issues as I have although it takes a little time to adjust and just cooperate, when in Rome.

Any way thats it, sufficed to say I will complain and moan when need be but I will try my best too not put down the Polish as a nation.

Don't worry... I love visiting Germany for a short break, but I've always been driven nuts whenever I lived there.

Who cares ? You are just one guest in Poland, you are insignificant and in a very small minority.

No offence intended merely pointing out the obvious and being realistic !

Moving home to a new country is probably one of the most stressful life experiences we go through after bereavement and divorce (or so the research tells us)... so I'm not surprised you sometimes may have 'blown your top' on certain occasions ....... I know I have when dealing with Polish red tape and the local councils !

Sometimes it feels as if they are all against you and you are being singled out for this treatment ..... when in truth everybody gets the same treatment, maybe the only difference is that the Poles are used to it !

I love Poland dearly .... but sometimes trying to get some answers or getting something relatively simple carried out .... is enough to drive a saint to swearing !

Have a good moan and complain as much as you like ...... but as you said there's no need to be derogatory about Poland as a nation :o) .... don't generalise .... be specific about what exactly pisses you off. You'll probably find most people, including native Poles will agree with you :o)

Have you decided to stay in Poland for good ..... or are you planning to move on ? I assume you're in Wroclaw ..... one of the most beautiful cities in Poland , and I don't just say that because my wife is from there.

Wroclaw boy, your life in poland seems very stressful. Maybe you should help yourself by going back to the UK.

My wife has also asked me the same question, If I am sure about moving to Poland. I do love Poland and Polish people but it will be a huge learning curve for me to bite my tongue as I am used to speaking out when i don't like something. Intend giving Poland a try, and hope it works as I am investing everything I have in this.

I am still in Poland for now and probably will be for another six months minimum, it certainly has had its ups and downs. I could never live here for good, without being too patronising I would not want to bring up my children in Poland or England for that matter.

So what will be your next destination ?

My wife and I have decided that we do not want to bring up our kids in England; although they have a good school at present, there are many other factors we have taken into account which have led us to make a decision to leave English shores for good in the next year or so.

If we weren't going to move to Poland, I'm not sure where we would move to .... possibly Canada ....

As long as you and your family can put up with Canadian winters, you should be fine. We have a progressive and peaceful little nation on this side of the Atlantic. Where would you settle?

I visited Canada in the late nineties and had a great time - I have family in Burnaby, Vancouver and stayed with them for a couple of weeks before driving to Edmonton where I also have family. Stayed in Whistler, Banff and Jasper. Not much to write home about in Edmonton apart from the huge mall which if i remember correctly has a ice rink, dolhin enclosure and swimming area with wave machine.

I suppose I'd look at relocating to Vancouver, although I have heard good things about Toronto where a friend of mine emigrated to with his family, and Montreal.

I think he's driving around poland, flexing is "muscles" out the window and threatening to beat people up! He's been taking waaaaay too much steroids lately! That, or just being a prostak as usual.

Yes when in Rome, do as the Romans do. However I live in poland for over a year and travelled around the country. I absolutley loved it, never found any problems. However I like confronting the new and adapting. ^_^
