My first ever email from Poland

I am used to emails, ostensibly from a bank, asking me to input my account details (including my PIN) and offers to share in enormous wealth as long as I send them a few hundred dollars/pounds, but this is a new one on me. It just happens to be my first email from Poland.

I usually just ignore them, but I was tempted to reply to this, just out of curiosity. I decided not to, but wondered if this is common in Poland?

My name withheld, I am emailing to you for very important information about your life. There is secret information that has a lot to do with your life. I came across this secret accidentally.

There is a group of secret cult members mixed with assassins. They held a meeting on how to track your family; they planned on how to hit you first before any other person in your family. I have had a means to cover their meeting discussions on how to eliminate you, right now I have the tape and I know you would like to have this tape so that you can solve the problem before they take your life. I use to be one of them but now I decided not to allow you die this way for some reasons.

I have the tape and you need not to report the case to police yet, we need to arrange on how you can get the tape immediately .If you report this case to police or any security service, mind you they will not spare your life and family reply me immediately……do not try to run because they are monitoring you I know the time they planned to hit you, you need to reply me immediately……you are closely monitored!!!/i]"

Some older people or those less used to receiving such drivel might be intimidated by this.

Tell them if they send you any more crap like this i will send the boys round to remove their bollox with blunt pliers...

Once they have frightened you into replying they will probably want money for this tape....the best thing is hand it to the Police , don,t reply to it..

yeah, I thought that they perhaps gave their demands in the same mail.
I would definatelly go with this to the police and I would get really pissed off that somebody is messing with people this way.
this is just cruel. :/

Yes, you should go to the police with this.

Might just be something nutty, but it's also a form of cyberterrorism, and some people night indeed believe it.

You can forward it to me if you like, the headers can usually be a dead giveaway as to whether it's a concentrated scam attempt or just someone being an idiot.

Looks a bit similar to me as these Nigerian guys promising half a billion dollars if you only give then your bank account details :)

It makes sense. They will have some thousands of dollars from your account..plus the thousands from other accounts...a million dollars at least.

It's an onet (polish portal email account) send me this email I'll complain in their customer service most probably they wiil close this account. Or if you wish you can do this on your own their adress is bok@portal.onet.pl

that is not a good idea- they are sending tons of spam like that to hundreds of randomly-generated email addresses- answering to spam like that would clearly indicate that an address is in use.

the best ways are:
1. use & configure good anty-spam filter
2. use google mail account.
