kmoursy Edited by: Moderator   Jan 9, 09, 05:29 /  #
HI Y'All

Been in Poland now for 7 years and married a Pole in September. I have had my Karta Pobytu since arrival and now when we try to get a mortage i am asked for permanent residency. I was wonderinf if anyone has ay news on how to go around doing it, there seems to be so much conflicting information. I am british living in Koszalin.

Isn't the Karta Pobytu permanent residency as it is?

The karta pobytu is usually for 5 years, after which you apply for permanent residency.

So if you have been here for 7 years what happened to your karta pobytu?

As far as I know there is no longer a karta pobytu for EU citizens. And again AFAIK, it is no longer possible for EU citizens to have permanent residency in Poland (or at least that is what has happened to the three Brits I know in Warsaw who have applied for perm residency since Poland joined the EU).

Yes there is, but it's not the card with photo etc.. anymore, it's just a crappy bit of paper. I got mine last year.

Do you know what year this was? Because when I last checked the rules when I got my karta pobytu it said that EU residents could apply for permanent residency once they had been here for 5 years.

When is a karta not a karta? When Polish bureaucrats are involved with it....

I think it was 2005 to 2006. But I could be completely wrong about that.

Ithink the paper one is 1pl but if you pay 30pln you can still get the plastic one. As for what Harry said, you can get and need residency for tax reasons, and you can get residency here. Look at people that are retiring here according to the UK press there is alot of them. So no residency either temporary or permanent no medical?

i am not sure why you have to have permanent res. for mortgage, i got, once i filled out pages and pages of information filled out a credit check from uk and the polish bank wbk gave me the money. the problem i had was i was building a house they couldnt/wouldnt believe i only needed to borrow 1/2 of the build. they came at each stage took photos and then released the money in stages to suit that point, i also had to have the banks assessor who came and valued land etc. for buying property outright should be easier. 1 thing though the interest rates (although have dropped) went high.

check with a selection of banks, if you live in non major city they will have to get permission from pozan or such like which is a pain waiting for answers or decisions. in my bank i think i was there first foreign person to do this,

I'm about to go through the application for Permanent Residency and have been told they don’t issue the credit card sized ID card anymore, all I’ll get is an A5 sized certificate at the end of it – not exactly practical for carrying around with you.

Anyone else heard otherwise?

I've heard the same and am well pissed off about it. I now have no valid photo ID other than my passport and there's no way I'm carrying that thing round with me all the time (not that it even shows my Polish address on it....)
