Gun-range Practice At Night

nauczyciel   Jun 24, 09, 00:07 /  #
So......there is a military academy near my place and tonight they've been practicing since 21, and it's now 0:05 and it's still going on. It's not just shooting 22's but heavy automatic gunnery.

Just when you think they have finished after a few min of silence (reload time) they start up again. :S

They are doing this in a heavily populated neighbourhood

Last night they did a 30 minute practice which "shot me out of bed" at 1:35am

Is it that nobody bothers to make noise complaints?

ohya I get it... if anyone complains.... they wouldn't be taken care of, so why bother.

what gives??

They have to practice in night-time conditions I'm afraid. I get that sort of thing here too, although the practice area is a little further away I can still hear it.

in my area is a heavy artillary range...but its far enough away to be only a distant rumble...like thunder...does not keep me awake...as for Nauczyciels complaint , you would think that there are enough open spaces in Polska to shoot off their guns away from built up areas where people are not going to be disturbed....

Was the shooting range already there before you moved in?
If yes, what are you complaining about?
It is as if you would rent a flat near to Okęcie and then start to complain about the noise.

yes. but they didnt shoot into the night during Oct- Apr.
the noise...lack of consideration...but this is Poland,,, there is none to be found.
i'd rather live on the the flightpath of an international airport.

oh ya...22:15... and they just started up again. :S

Who owns the range, and what sort of facilities does it have?
Might be interesting to find out who is doing the practicing. There is more to shooting than just shooting, if that makes any sense.
Still, hope you can get some sleep soon. If it is a military unit preparing for some required capability, odds are you will have some peace once everyone has practiced until they know what they need to. In the mean time, soft foam earplugs might be your only option.

Surely they can use the silencer :)

That would be interesting, although most weapons beyond pistol/submachine gun caliber are seldom suppressed in that way...might as well train with the weapons one is actually going to use, not that many wouldn't love to have some of the toys from James Bond's kit...
Automatic fire is also hard on most silencers....

In the US silencers are a big deal (after media portrayal of them being seemingly fit only for assassins) so they are very uncommon.
Special military units have them (not just for stealth but for ease of communication)
but the largest user, even more than the military? Animal control. Dog chasers.
Can't upset the neighbors when one shoots the marauding stray dog, after all.
Seriously though, to the OP, try some earplugs or something until they are done with training, so you can get some sleep. Hopefully there are simply night drills taking place and these will be complete shortly.

Contrary to popular culture, suppressers / silencers do not stop a gun making a sound when it is fired. It slows the gas expulsion noise and sometimes the bullets velocity to a limited degree. Rather than the dull "thud" or "phut" seen in films, a silencer only reduces the gunshot by about 30db, so most gunshots are still over 100db.

it is an area with barracks. they have a small practice range. they started practicing again at 6am today :S

my guess is that school is out, and new recruits are getting some "teasers" of what they can be doing.

It's a very good idea to find out what the neighbours think too. Although the recruits in the academy have to practice night time routines it's not essential that they have to practice so close to urban habitation. They can practice this as easily out in the countryside somewhere. I bet your neighbours are just as annoyed.
