Hi... feeling a bit out of place in my new surroundings. I am on the outskirts of Warsaw but go into the city every weekend. What are some places --- bars, lounges, bookstores, etc. that might be frequented by latinos(hispanics)/blacks?? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!!!

I would possibly start with going to a Legia soccer game (the league should start in March) and there are some Latino/Black players there so there could be some foreign soccer fans to hang out with too. If not soccer, other sports (academic too).

A soccer game is the last place i would recommend a black man to visit in poland. Many hooligans are skin heads who enjoy attacking coloured people.

Besitos, for your own good, do not attend soccer games in poland.

After watching Ross Kemp's documentary on Poland, this suggestion does seem practical.

- This guy is from Latin America, isn't he? Hence he is perhaps well acquainted with eve the most extreme soccer game violence, as in Latin Amerca the volence is really bad - I suspect much worse than in Poland, including shootings of players.

- It's just like many 'coloured' thugs enjoy attacking, and killing, ahem, 'colourless' people. Ever tried to enter the Black 'hood, e.g. in LA, even at daytime? How about 'coloured' violence in British cities, e.g. London? Does such a phenomenon exist, or not, eh?

Pretending not to know these things, 'polishcanuck' (sc) hypocrite?

As for Ross Kemp (who himself looks like a soccer hooligan), well, has he ever made a film on British soccer hooligans? If so, how has he depicted them - more positively than the Polish soccer hooligans, I presume...? Kemp's film on Polish soccer hooligans must have helped many Brits give a sigh of relief, eh...?
Alas, I think the European record in soccer hooliganism still belongs to the British, I mean the killling of tens of Italian fans during one of the games in the 80s....

Contrary to what Kemp suggests, not all soccer fans in Poland are Hitler-sympathisers; it appears only those from ethnic German and Germanophile areas, such as Slask, are so. Most of the Polish fans carry Polish national flags, etc. , just as e.g. English soccer fans carry English flags....

Somebody has suggested that some media in the UK are crap (Daily Mal, the Sun, etc.),
and other very good (The Times, BBC, Guardian, etc.), and the crappy ones are Polonophobic, whereas the good ones aren't.

I have doubts about that; I tend to think now all of them are Polonophobic, brainwashing the British into hating the Poles.

u know i luv ya(in a strictly platonic way!!) puz but, come on...."this guy" whatever complexion he is wouldnt stand out in a soccer crowd in latin america so therefore would only be one of 30.000 possible targets for a hooli' I think if your honest you have to agree he probably will stand out a touch at a legia match!!!

Yes they have.
All those social misfits should be banned from any sporting event no matter what nationality.

"Juventus fans were forced to retreat, putting pressure on a dilapidated wall, which collapsed on top of them"
(leave space for dodgy joke re Italians retreating, theres a surprise.)
"The Heysel Stadium disaster occurred due to football hooliganism in which a retaining wall of the Heysel Stadium in Brussels collapsed "
All from your link, sure,a disaster but,as clearly stated an Italian built wall fell on the italian fans who were pushing against it. Riots were a part of football life in the 80s,in fact, still are in Italy, probably europes worst offender for football releted violence these days.
The implication that prompted my origional post was that dozens of italian fans had been deliberatly murdered by english hooligans, the evidence cleary points the finger at shoddy medeteranian building standards.

Thirty-nine Italian and Belgian fans died and hundreds were injured.
Heysel stadium was in northwest Brussels, built in 1930. It was demolished after the disaster and replaced by the Stade Roi Baudouin, which has never been used to stage club football. Many have blamed poor organization and lack of crowd control by the Belgian authorities. The only reminder of that time is a reconditioned gateway near the main entrance, and no plaque commemorates the 1985 horror.
It was a tragic loss of life and we should all learn from this tragedy.

I think in the main we did,I was ten at the time and not then or now much interested in football,so it was shoddy belgiun workmanship then. Anyhow,a riot generely needs two opposing sides ,once it flares up no "side" is entirely innocent,so I stick to my guns in defending the wild accusation of mass murder by bloodthirsty english fans. In fact, the only murders I can think of involving english fans was the cowardly murder of two family men ,leeds fans ,in turkey by galetaserii thugs, and this was in the streets not in a stadium.
anyway, all this is crowding the issue, suggesting a person of colour is not running the risk of serious hassle at a legia game is frankly tantamount to throwing the christains to the lions.

I’m not suggesting this. If you think you’re not safe trust your intuition. Just try not to miss out on life because of blind beliefs of stereotype. That goes for both sides black or white, british or polish etc.

Nope, wouldn't dare, but i did get lost in Detroit once - same idea though.

I'm not racist at all. I once dated a girl of mixed ancestry (not white). Great girl.

Unfortunately, racism and discrimination does exist, both white vs black and black vs white. Racism in poland is subsiding but unfortunately there's still quite a bit to be done. Hooligans are mostly young and uneducated and (probably as a result of this) are very racist. Puzzler, why are you calling me a hypocrite?

Wasnt saying you were, rather I meant the origional comments about it being fine for him to attend,no worries and hassle free.
I kind of live that philosaphy myself and dont care if Im the only white guy someplace but I would maybe draw the line at crashing a Nation of Islam convention just as If I was black I wouldnt bother attending your avarage Eastern European football match.Im not saying western european clubs dont have their share of rascist bozzo's either, just they have a much wider choice of targets.

Hi Besitos!
I guess you (or any Latinamerican person) dont want to go to any soccer game in Poland as football quality is really bad there! Nothing like in our land! :)

Have you tried salsa nights and latino clubs? Salsa Polish dancers are really good! I am planning to go to Poland to a Salsa event this year! I hope Polish people in those events are friendly!
