A lot has been said about life in Poland and people giving positive and negative comments, some have enjoyed cheap meals and alcohol etc, some who had a business etc no longer post... could people share there experiences of moving to Poland, and would they have move if they knew what was in front of them...

Mine has been very successful. I almost certainly would have earned a lot more money (and paid a lot less tax) if I hadn't come here but I wouldn't have had anything like as an enjoyable a decade and a half. I'd write more but I'm on deadline here.

I too am personally happy with my decision to move to Poland. I came here 3 years ago in September. I have had quite an adventure so far and have freed myself from the London rat-race.

Again, I could have earned more money staying in London but I have a lot less stress and more financial freedom in Poland. In fact I have reduced my tax bill from 50% in the UK to 20% in Poland so can't complain.

Would I have moved knowing what I do now? Yes, I am very happy with the way things have turned out and currently plan to stay for at least the next 5 - 10 years, possibly permanently.

I knew in advance that it would be hard to find work, be bureaucratic and the roads were bad etc.. etc.. so have had no nasty surprises.

I'm German and decided to move permanently to PL 3 years ago (a woman, of course..). Before I worked self-employed a lot in UK, but now, as the GBP is no currency anymore, I'm searching for something new here in PL.
...and searching
...and searching...

Even though I speak polish (ok, not without mistakes), german and english, a lot of experience in distribution there's no light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. Maybe its because I'm now 50, maybe I don't have a business network here.

Anyway, I learned a lot here and do not regret this decision, especially as we decided to marry soon:-)

Greetings from Katowice

I am going to move to Poland after 2 weeks.
Of course, I already have the job so I think I will do just fine.

My wife and I retired and moved to Poznań two years ago from the Chicago area. We are very happy with the decision. I have a large extended family here that I never knew about and this has given me to the opportunity to get to know some of them. We love Poznań and the life we have created here. We do no plan to leave.

I'm in an area which allows for the transferability of skills, namely teaching. It's good to know that you have other options.

As for general living, I feel pretty safe here and haven't had any run-ins.

My fiancee's family are nice too, they really go out of their way to accommodate me.

All in all, I have to say that my move has been a success. I'd love to be with my family again but I won't be living in Scotland for a while yet.

Yes, but I suspect the results here are skewed - I am sure if I had given up and returned to the UK I wouldn't be reading this forum anymore and therefore there are more positive stories here than negative.

Sure, good point, a lot of people who posted for a long time are not doing so, perhaps they may have gone back to GB... Bubba woo comes to mind.

I thought Bubba was in Asia. Ah well, good luck to the man. He was pretty clear about his views on Poland ;) ;)

i moved here over 3 years ago and have never regretted it. When i first intended to move over, i did not have a job. Luckily, i have been working on and off remotely for my old company back in ireland so that has kept me going financially. Would i feel different if i had to go looking for a job here, i am not sure.
There has been many challenges, between work/business, and for a lot of last year, i had some very nice challenges on the medical side.... However, if you face these with a positive way, i do think it makes you a stronger person.
I still dont know how much longer I will be here, but i do think my stay here will be a very valuable part of my life.
