What is there to do in Warsaw??

Hey I've been living in Warsaw since February, but all I've done is work. My girlfriend and I would like to do some interesting activities here in Warsaw, or at least do some interesting sighteeing, but what can we do? So far I've found out that the zoo here in Warsaw is worth checking out, I want to check out the Chopin museum. I missed the free museum night festivities, but if there are any other things like that that would be cool to know.

Warsaw might not be THE most entertaining place in the world but there sure are things to do and see. The Old Town, Royal Castle, The Royal Route, Lazienki Park, Wilanow Pallace, National Museum, Warsaw Uprising Museum - most typical choices off the top of my head. Chopin Museum is in Warsaw?

Ok perhaps I should ask what it is that most people age 20-25 do for fun in Warsaw beside going to bars and nightclubs?

For example, in New York you could take a horse-carriage ride around the park, or take a small boat ride in one of the small lakes inside Central Park. You could go to the pier where they would have fun stuff happening on random people's boats, just walking around would be fun, checking out neighborhoods like Chinatown, Harlem, the financial district, etc... you could go catch some street performances around Union Square or further downtown, and I could go on.

You can do pretty much all of that in Warsaw too. Take a horse and carridge ride round the Old Town, take a boat in Lazienki, visit interesting neighbourhoods like Zoliborz, Praga etc. It's summer, it's hot, go for a walk - things to do should literaly bump into You :)

There is a special bus line which will take You through most of the important sights for the price of a normal ticket.

those questions about what to do in big cities are kind of silly.... there is ALWAYS something to do or to see... just find that city's website (attractions, things to do) and there you go...

For the sack of the Gods, you are already located in the city. All you need to do is step outside and roam around. There is plenty to see everywhere you happen to go. Good luck.

Learn something about the folk history of the country - take your girl to a Mazowsze or Slask concert at the concert hall. There used to be an awesome flea market in Warsaw but the last time I was there it wasn't anymore. So to the Old Town and eat these great bread rolls that are filled with mushrooms and onions (anyone know what these are called?)

No, I know what zapiekanka are - kind of a Polish pizza boat. These things look like breadsticks and they poke a hole in them with a long stick and put in the most wonderful sauce filled with mushrooms and onions and who knows what else but they are heaven!

i know what you are talking about :) i had it a long time ago on Karmelicka Street in Krakow, this place doesn't exist anymore...where did you find those??

there is a new bilingual guidebook in shops called "Do it in Warsaw" and it is supposedly full of interesting ideas, not the typical guidebook fare...

Take your bike and ride from Pole Mokotowskie to Kampinos Park. Very well signposted route, leads you through Łazienki park, Ujazdowski Park and further through various green zones to Stare Miasto, and then under the trees along the Wisła up north.
Very pleasant and enough places on the way to stop and have a cold beer :)

just keep in mind that you aren't allowed to drink alcohol and ride a bike in Poland - your (car) driving license can be taken away....

have a hobo day, go to somehwere like Pola mokotowskie, or actually any place where you can find some alcomaholics and shout them some cheapo wine and get drunk wid dem =] .

if u get board of that maybe invest in a late edition of Lonelyplanet-Warshaw

I HAVE explored a bit, and I must say that Warsaw isn't a great place to just go around for a walk BUT, that might just be because I chose some crap places to explore. I live in the centrum so that's mostly what I've seen, I've seen the old town which is cool, but that gets old. (no pun intended.)

Have you already published it? I need to see this one.

As far as "activities" for young people, the preferred option seems to be getting s****faced until the early hours, with the venue depending largely on the budget. If you've got the dosh, it's Monobar, Klubokawiarnia, Lemon, etc. (watch out with the last one, they seem to have a violent streak). If not, it's the nearest park bench with a can of Tatra.

I live in the centrum so that's mostly what I've seen, I've seen the old town which is cool, but that gets old. (no pun intended

buy a mountain bike and explore Warsaw on two wheels - its relatively flat, and you see way more because everything is so spread out...plus you get some excersize. Cool places to bike around include centrum, around the national theatre/plac Pilsudskiego, and around Lazienki, plus Zoliborz...the list goes on and on...

I will be flying out to Warsaw from London on Saturday (16th August) and whilst it will only be a short visit (as I'm going out to Bike the Baltic to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care), I would still like to know what is worth seeing and doing in the city.

Hi Laura,

How long will you have in Warsaw? I've been there many times and will be there again this weekend. If you have a short time, I would make sure you get a chance to see Old Town. Also, check out the Uprising museum (http://www.1944.pl/index.php?lang=en), the Palace of Cultural Science (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Culture_and_Science), and the Ghetto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_Ghetto).

It's a lot of walking, but it can be done and is well worth it.
