No you won't pay akcyza because you owned it for more than 6 months. I had the same thing with my motorbike and just had to write a declaration to say that. But you would have a very tough time to register a RHD vehicle (theoretically possible, practically impossible).

Hi there I'm planning to move to Poland with my g/f in the summer and plan on taking my UK registered mini to Poland, I need to insure the car but can't seem to find an insurer, I have heard that Axa have a policy but I can seem to find it online...are there any other companies that people may know of? Dziekuje :)

hey!!! im with axa in ireland and they told me when im going over in the summer jst contact them once it over 30 days you got tell them they charge you more.. but ireland and england are different countries might be different hope i was a help

I'm with AXA on their long term European insurance - you can only get it through a broker - try Stuart Collins Ltd. It's not cheap though...

remember that any EU insurance policy gives you 3rd party cover in the rest of the EU. So if you don't care about fire or theft you are already covered. Read the small print in your policy and it will tell you about it.

I am insured with Stuart Collins and if you have a good no claims bonus covering a few years then they're really not that expensive. About 10-20% more than you'd pay for the same cover in the UK. Not bad for complete piece of mind. And their service is excellent. I've made one claim in the 3 years that I've been with them and it was all settled within 1 month of submitting the claim. And no I don't work for them. ;-)

MCA and Inkrakow - if you don't mind can I ask you why you choose to keep UK cars in Poland? Is it because you are planning to return soon(ish) to the UK? Because insurance, MOT and a tax disc are so expensive in the UK I don't see the logic of keeping a UK car in Poland long-term...

Actually I'm living in Belgium at the moment... My reasons: I've never had any intention of settling here and the sheer headache of going through the reams of paperwork that the Belgian's like to throw at you if you want to get your car approved from Belgian roads. Not that anyone seems to abide by the rules and regulations, but that's a whole other story on a different forum. ;-)

MCA: the sheer headache of going through the reams of paperwork same story more or less - I can't face going through the Polish paperwork and paying the 'akcyza' (although I'm not entirely sure if I need to given that the car has been mine for over 2 years now - I really should look into it). I pay about 40% more for insurance than I would do in the UK but up to now it's been worth it, and driving back once a year for MOT isn't such a hassle. However, with the credit crunch and everything, I am considering biting the bullet and registering it here.

But you would have a very tough time to register a RHD vehicle (theoretically possible, practically impossible). I just sold my UK car and bought a Polish one - simplest solution... You will save a lot on insurance - I only pay about 300 PLN per year, plus no road tax. Plus if you run your own company you can offset all costs (depreciation, fuel, parts, servicing, insurance...) against tax.

couple of questions for you guy's in Poland at the moment: I'm relocating to Poland in June this year for good, I will be selling my car in the UK before I leave & will looking to buy a used car when we get to Poland. Will this be an easy thing to do in terms of paperwork & insurance, or would it just be easier to get put on my father-in-laws insurance & use one of his cars. I will also be bringing over my motorbike, a Suzuki TL1000R. Does anyone know what the insurance cost's are like for bikes in Poland? I'm currently paying £200 p/year in the UK, been riding for 30+ yrs & clean licence, so that helps. But if it's going to cost to much I may sell it before I leave.

I bought my suzuki GSF 1200 bandit to Poland. Was paying 600 GBP per year for 3rd fire and theft. I pay 50 zloty per year (no, that's not a typing error) for 3rd party only here in Poland. I imported my bike and have got Polish plates now. I can give you the details of how to do that if you are interested. Regarding the car you will need to be registered at an address in order to register a vehicle under your name. Temporary registration is only valid for 3 months at a time which means you will keep needing to extending your vehicle registration in person at the transport office which is a pain. Once you get your residence card then you can register for 5 years, so might be worth doing it through your father-in-law until then...

We are going to be in Poznan, I know the roads throughout the city are not brilliant for riding, to many cobbles & tram tracks, but I'm hopeful that I will get out & about during the summer more than I did in good old UK (without having to carry wet weather gear?). Any info you have regarding importation for the bike would be welcome. May seem like a silly question but... Is there any track day offerings in Poland? I'm only asking as my father-in-law took me to a race track in Poznan last year but there was no one there to ask. I've done quite a few here in the Uk & would like to carry on doing them if poss. Prefer track to road if I'm honest. We will not have an issue with residence, so I hope that we can sort out the paperwork fairly quickly in terms of the car.

Hi, I was wondering if there was any Polish insurance companies that would insure a rhd car. the reason is rhd cars are at least twice as cheap as lhd. so if i can have a car for 5000zl instead of 20,000zl just because the steering wheel is on the other side ....i'd like to save my money. thanks for any help

There is some sentimental attachment going on :) but I'm happy to hear that there may be no akcyza to pay - that was a major stumbling block for me. Being allowed to offset the costs to my company is also a major plus! Thanks - you've inspired me to go look into this. Financially it might be worth the pain that getting the paperwork sorted will almost certainly end cause.
