Hi. Is it possible to get high speed internet access in your home/apartment in Lodz?

Also, I'm having a hard time finding a website where I can hunt for an apartment or a house to rent in Lodz....preferably two bedroom/two bath. Can someone tell me a website where to look for this? Thank you!

Yep, it is.

Here I am from Lodz! ... I write you from my home... high speed!

It is available... perhaps the link above by bubbawoo may help. But you can find out yourself when you come. It shouldn't be a problem.

If you need any help, I am present in this city ~ the best place in Poland (arguably).

Thanks! BubbaWoo and LoneStranger for your answers to my questions. We really need high speed internet so I was glad to hear it is available. The housing website is fun to look at....think I might need to get a Polish dictionary. :-) Thanks again.

Lodz, the best city in Poland?????????? Have you gone stark raving mad? Have you ever been to ANY other Polish city outside of Lodz???

Lodz is a hideous post-industrial wasteland. There is only one vaguely attractive street in the whole town.

Well you did say "arguably", so this is me starting that argument...

Concerning Internet. Should be no problem for a foreigner to organize a broad band link, though it might take a few weeks. The main difficulty is that the big Polish telecom company - TP SA - is a bureaucratic nightmare. Everything has to be signed in triplicate. You'll need to show your property lease agreement, or have to get your landlord to sign the agreement.

Internet in Poland is also relatively expensive and the quality of the workers who carry out installation is very low... all the good ones have left for Britain. You can get some good deals only if you sign up for 24-36 months. (see neostrada.pl)

Haven't been to Lodz so I can't comment, but nobody ever said to me that it was the best city.

I was told its a 'closed city'.
Unless your well connected, your business will not survive in the city, if you even get one started. Lots of corruption, backhanders, brown envelopes, and mafia.

Only repeating what I was told but nobody ever said this about any other city in Poland.

I was born in Lodz, that's my city also and I love it!, but you have to discover her real face. It's the city of artists, good pubs and fantastic fun, but you need somebody who helps you discover it

... Lodz is a good city. I love Lodz. I live here! Whats wrong with the rest of the people!

See...we have corruption....but we are aware of it and improvements ar going on.

The broadband problem was exagerated. Its not that bad. Polish people are co-operative.

We shouldnt believe hearsay. Please come Lodz, Poland and investigate yourself.

Thread attached on merging:
Internet companies in Lodz

Does anyone know of any good internet providers in ŁÓDĽ? I had one company that turned out to be terrible. Are there any good ones that are somewhat centrally located? Thank you.

The former Rainbow Net, on Naurotowicza. They have changed their name but it's the same people. Impossible to get service people to come and it goes in and out all the time.

I have Netia (I live in the part of the city where there is little choice) and it's quite OK. From time to time, quite rarely, there are some breakdowns, but they fix it in a few hours. Most of the time I have no problem with that.

Also TOYA is quite good as far as I know.

Where in ŁódĽ do you live? Which district?

You should have some choice,. living in the centre.

It's quite possible you can get Toya.
Prices per month:
55,50 zł 512 kb/s
75,49 zł 1024 kb/s
95,50 zł 1536 kb/s
115,50 zł 2560 kb/s
135,49 zł 4096 kb/s
145,50 zł 6000 kb/s
If you sign a contract for 12 months. If you get it in the package with the cable TV, then there are some reductions.

Netia offers (if you've got a telephone line by Netia or TP SA):
69 zł 1 Mb/s
84 zł 4 Mb/s
159 8 Mb/s
for 18 months contract, and
59 zł 1 Mb/s
74 zł 4 Mb/s
129zł 8 Mb/s
for 24 or month contract.
http://www.netia.pl/files/swp_promo/1805/swp_-_4_x_szybszy_internet_ii i_bez_telefonu_2009.03.16.pdf

It's cheaper in a package with the phone.
In both cases, there are no download limits and crap like that. I've had some experinence with Internet provided by both those companies and I didn't notice any big problems.
Now, I've got a contract for 24 months in Netia (starting 1st. June). For the 1st 12 months I'm going to pay 59zł/month, then 74/month for 4Mb/s. It's some promotion.

Anyway, you have to contact the companies so they check if they can do it in the area you live.

Afaik, people do not complain about Neostrada too much, but TP SA has some strange rules concerning using their telecommunications services if you want to have Internet. And it's generally more expensive. E.g. you can't chose the fare system with the cheapest phone rental if you want to have Neostrada. (or at least it was so when I still considered Neo).

I hope this helps.

I realise this is in Warsaw not Łodz, but I had no problem at ALL getting Aster City connection for internet, tv and even a CONTRACT sim card. I had to give a photocopy of my passport along with my rental agreement, sure, but the connection was on within a couple of days. Delayed not by the company, by my work schedule.
