Hi There

Having just moved to Krakow, our flat doesn't have a washing machine. I am fast running out of pants now so could really do with finding a Laundrette. I know there is one in Kazimierz but that is the opposite side of the city from me. Does anyone know of somewhere I can do my laundry that is near to the mining college, or at least in that area of the city?

Hello Cardno85,

Cardno85:

Having just moved to Krakow, our flat doesn't have a washing machine.

I know it is a big problem and a very good business idea to open a laundry. The only one i have ever heard of is the one you mentioned.
I never understood why this is, is everyone expected to have a washing machine?

best of luck smelly pants :)

There is a big pond with clean water in the nearby Jordan Park.... :):):)

Sorry for the joke but I have no idea about laundrettes in Kraków. They are not very popular in Poland. Most people have a washing machine...

Simply maintain the highest level of personal cleanliness and you won't need a washing machine, or even soap. Ever.

We decided that for the main washes we came down to the one I had heard of. Supposedly there is another one, but we couldn't find it. My towel (it's new and orange, not a good idea to wash with other things) and some small items we hand washed though.

Hand washing is handy enough for underwear and small things I do take that point. But for a full laundry load it's not ideal.

This isn't too long a trip on the tram though so it's all good.

Now just beware that you don't loose one sock in every pair that slips into the alternative dimension through a black hole. Funny to think there is another universe with only one sock from a pair in it...

Cardno85:

hand washed

I hate hand washing, socks and small items are alright but jeans or a towels are trouble.

Trams are great, like a slow roller-coaster round the city :0)

Yeah, why do socks get lost one at a time? It just doesn't make sense...even if i match them and clip them together they still get lost.

Hand washing is a pain in the hole, moving into a new place on Thursday that has a washing machine though...all good in da hood!

I am slowly getting sick of the trams, that constant bell that goes off because people are too lazy to get on the tram before the door shuts.

They are really good and it's not too expensive. Proper industrial washing machines. I normally do 2 loads, use the internet and have a few coffees and it only costs about 40zl. It's normally quite quiet, most people are just in and out. I have never had to wait more than 3 minutes to get my laundry in.

[edit: just checked the board, a small load is 12pln, large is 16pln and drying is 1zl per 10 mins, but free for 40 mins if you are a student]

I work in Mazana behind the bar on ul Miodowa. Just round the corner from here, but the internet is well fast in here so it's a bonus. It's a nice bar, quiet though, still relatively new.

Laundromat in Cracow!!!
On Wrzesińska street there is Laundromt ,,Frania Cafe", where can you wash and dry your clothes in 1 hour. In this time you can use internet for free and drink delicious coffes. Look on our website www laundromat pl

Use a sink or a basin. This is what I did for the first 1/2 year. There are also youth hostels in Krakow that have washing machines.

Using a basin is no bad as you can let it soak overnight and just rinse the next day.

Useful post, thanks. Does anyone know if there are any other laundromats in Krakow besides the one on Dietla, and the one on Wrzesińska? (both claim to be the first and only)

What about laundry pick-up service, is that available at all? This is where somebody will come to your apartment, take your dirty clothes away, clean them, fold/iron, and return them to you. You are charged by the weight of the clothing. You just hope not to have someone else's underwear returned to you. There are lots of services like this in New York, and it is particularly handy for cleaning things like duvets and other large items that won't fit in your washer at home and are too big to lug to the laundromat.

This is just off DDietla, opposite the tram stops.
I have used this laundromat on many occassions. Excellent service.
