Looking forward to move to Poland in September, but I have some questions.

After months of moaning about my job here in the U.K. I have finally handed my notice in at work and I will be moving to Wroclaw in the first week of september!,

My wife is Polish so I guess I will have to take her along! I am looking to get a job as a teacher, I am doing some part time teaching for English as a second language students here in the U.K. and I have a few job interviews lined up in June so the employment issue seems to be sorting itself out!

Just one thing concerns me, I'm not sure of how many of my electrical appliances I should take from the U.K. or how I should move them?

I was thinking of just doing one car trip with my stereo, games console, coffee machine etc..

Is this the best way? Any advice?

Just one question: WHY?
Do you not think that these goods are available in Poland? If I were you I would sell them in the UK and buy new in Poland.

That's a bloody hassle though, I would reckon, if he's taking his car anyway, he may as well bring them.

Remember though slick, you will need to change the plugs on your appliances.

DON'T ditch your electricals, they are of course available in Poland but for 4zl a shot you can buy a new plug in Carrefore (maybe cheaper elsewhere, people?), cut off the old plug and rewire them.

There is no polarity per se, so you wire the blue wire to one plug pin and the brown wire to the other. SIMPLE! I did this with everything except stuff which needs a transformer and tbh I wish I'd brought some goodies I gave away like my footspa bath!

BTW you're not moving from the Leamington Spa area with space for a couple of boxes of books are you? (Don't ask, don't get :) )

Don't forget to take decent extension lead/splitter from the U.K for mobile chargers etc
You will have to rewire only one plug. These UK adaptors in Polish supermarkets are big s**t.

Yeah I still remember how long it took me to rewire everything when I moved here - hours and hours. Polish plugs are much more fiddly to wire up than UK ones in my experience.

It was certainly one of the more boring evenings I have spent here ... and yes, good point about an adapter/cable.

If anyone is in desperate need of one of these, BTW, I do actually have a spare one (not with a Euro plug yet but it has four UK sockets I think) - nearly everything I have now has a Euro plug, including my mobile charger as I had to get a new phone out here. So if in need let me know!

yeah I did that for my computer stuff, TV, plus all my electrical tools.

Nice trick is that you can force a Polish plug into a UK socket if necessary and it works fine.

A round peg into a square hole? That's not the usual way to make things that don't go together work!

Thanks for the advice everyone, definitely a good idea about the adapter cable.

I have managed to get rid of a large majority of my possesions in anticipation to my move and I cant believe how much C**P I own(ed)!!

I was thinking of doing one run in the car to poland in july and then selling my car in the U.K. before buying a car in poland? If I go in july it gives me chance to sort my flat out etc...

It's nice innit, getting rid?

My only regrets are my stepladder (doh!) and the footspa. Everything else I am happy with.

Just wish I had the two boxes of books etc that got left behind!
