Non-EEA Spouse of British citizen in Poland

Hi All,
I've not been here for a while but I've come back for a visit :)

To cut a long story short, I just married my Ukrainian wife and we're returning to Poland for a while.

Has anybody taken a non-eea spouse into Poland and survivied? We have exercised our rights under EC Directive 2004/38 which involved us arguing with the Polish consulate before they agreed my wife was legally entitled to a free visa without any of the usual questions and that the visa had to be issued quickly. We got priority treatment all the way and got the visa same day! :)

The next step is arrival in Poland and registering for zameldowania and karta pobytu. I have a friend who says we can do a temporary registration at their address for 3 months but is this good enough to get the karta pobytu or will they need to let us register for a longer term - which they said they cannot do at their address because they already have their limit of people there.

Next up, from some entries on this forum I see that some people have to pay for the registration and residence permit. According to EU law, a member state cannot charge a citizen of another member state for the residence card and can only charge the same for address registration as they would charge their own citizens. The same applies for the non-EEA spouse of an EU citizen. Have any EU nationals here had to pay for their residence or zameldowania? How much?
