Polish Police - my bad experience.

Well I have lived here for almost 5 years and I can understand Polish and speak enough to ask for some every day things I may need. You should probably do the same thing. Also the police here are so underpaid you have no idea. Combine an underpaying job with drunk forgeiners and you will get unhappy employees. How do you think the American cops feel about the mind you illegal aliens that can't speak the language that cause trouble. Main thing is this. You shouldn't do something for the police to have to pay attention to you at all and then they won't be rude or agressive towards you. Police are nice and yes you do get 1 or 2 that are not but that's in any country as well. So we should all be good boys and girls and stay out of trouble. :o)

Why are the police in this country completely incompetent? Most of them are agressive brutes who are fond of using the word 'k****' and the others are basically kids just out of nappies. I dread to think whats gonna happen when the Euro 2012 comes to this country. Anyone else had any bad experiences with the police?

The Polish police have to be strong, especially at football matches. I haven't encountered any brutality.

My friends have all had situations where they stop talking to them cos they have to speak in English so they basically just get away with it. When I first came to Poland I called the Police to move a car out of the way which was blocking mine. 2 policemen came in a clapped out old polonez and one guy was trying to tlak to me while the other guy was sat in the car kicking me in the back of the leg. They were swearing alot and when they finally left the kicking cop gave me the middle finger. I was walking in the old town yesterday where there were 2 policemen (about 1 in the morning). The older policeman went looking for a toilet whilst the other one (who looked barely 12) begged him niot to leave him on his own. It was quite pathetic. Also, their radios are funny. They have the big radios which they have to carry in thiir hands (dont know if they have a beltclip or not).

That sounds like a concocted story but I don't want to doubt your sincerity. I just find it hard to fathom why he would be kicking you and flippin the bird. I think you just got unlucky. There are idiotic PO's in most countries.

jeezus man terrible story, i had terrible experiences with police in many countries, the thing with poland is maybe that they're not very smart, they take anyone for this job, i've met some nice ones too though, still they give a lot of tickets

Crossed paths with the Polish Policja a few times as a proffessional truck driver , motorist , and Harley rider , never had any problem with them , i was polite to them , they were just fine with me...When i first came to Poland i was not aware of the requirement to carry all your documents on you at all times , got stopped a few times , and they could have given me a fine , but they didn,t , so no complaints from me there....On the other hand , when some stuff got stolen from my farm the Policja were unable to arrest anyone , despite me giving the name of the bandits , and their address....Fortunatly being a member of a Polish motorcycle klub meant there were other ways of seeing justice done....

hey..i have had some sweet experiences with the police in poland..i was drinking on the street once with my friends and they stopped. i knew we were in some trouble ...they just sat in the car..looked at us and drove away..i am obviously not polish (from my looks) and they realized it would be difficult to begin a conversation with me in Polish.. ..surprisingly they drove away...even when it was obvious we had bottles of vodkas in our hands. Police everywhere could be shitty and also nice. Thumbs up ..police Now the bitter experience is as regards football in poland....we need an entire barracks of police to watch out for violent fans...i am sure u know polish fans....

I have not had much experience with the Police. However we had them in the bar every now and again after minor incidents with homeless people and drunk tourists. Found them to be quite heavy handed when dealing with people in the most part. However that is very much the, "if you don't want a baton across your napper, don't be a tit" in my opinion. When I needed help however (a taxi driver tried to overcharge me and then grabbed my phone out of my hand as payment as a friend pulled me out the car) I went to the police office with the liscence plate number of the car only to be told that without his name and the company they can't help. Luckily my friends phoned my phone enough and I payed the 70pln ransom to get my phone back. Police were of no help whatsoever.

Seanus, I did not concoct this story and it quite upset me actually. I have never actually been in trouble with the police, i have needed them and they have let me down on a number of occasions. I live in Sopot and mayb e the police in the countryside are helpful but here they employ anyone - literally. They just dont have the money to have a decent police force and im sure this will improve in the future. For those people who know neither me or my friends, they have been stopped by the police for not having their lights on in the car or for crossing the railway line instead of going to the station. Of course, if u need nothing to do with the police they will leave you alone but when help is needed then you cant rely on them.

The police can be disgruntled hacks anywhere. Sorry for any insinuation, I was just taken aback. Stick up for your rights. They'll be as they'll be, just don't take them on.

Secondly, the thousands of people who are going to come here for the Euro 2012 are going to run amuck. I teach English to Komendia Wojewodski in Gdansk and thez told me that for the foootball thez are going to invite the British/Spanish/French etc Police out here to help them to control the crowds. It is a fact that the Police here in Gdansk are looking to fine people. Gdansk is a special case as it is close to the border of Russia so they have some sort of Border police as well. It is these guys which are the assholes.

I've had good and bad experiences. When I first came here I was stopped arbitrarily by the police in Warsaw and had money stolen from my wallet by them. On the other hand, when I needed them recently they were very good. People say they are changing for the better, especially in the capital.
