Sat TV providers in Poland

Which SAT TV provider you guys are using here in Poland? We have Cyfra+ but I was already several times thinking of changing. Every time it is raining or there is some wind, we have problems. no reception anymore and only a small red quadrant on the screen. The receiver head was already replaced once by a satguy but later again the same problems.
Besides of this the customer service of Cyfra+ is crappy = you are simply not able to reach them.
Now I have heard good opinion about "N". A few of my friends have it and it seems to be quite OK...

I've got Sky TV. Am using a one-metre dish and a Panasonic digibox. In eight years I have not had reception just twice.

I used to have sky but couldn't receive BBC or ITV and a couple of others. Now I have got "n" instead and am happy enough with it.

The n box isn't as functional as the sky box - for example you can't record two programmes at once like you can with sky. Also the movie channels are crap compared to sky movies etc..

Regarding the picture the screen pixelates sometimes for a second when the wind blows a lot but otherwise it's been fine for the past year.

The customer service with N isn't great either. Sometimes really hard to get hold of them. Luckily haven't needed to recently.

You need a 2.7-metre dish to get BBC and ITV.

Im using my five year old sky box with the same card, i cancelled my contrcat with Sky in 2006 but still get some half decent channels. Cant get BBC or ITV as my dish is not big enough.

It's not hard to find football live streams on the net, there are hundreds out there, here are some links.

LINK 1 Russian site with many links to premiership games
LINK 2 Many sports links and even links to BBC 1 and BBC 2
LINK 3 ITV 1 link, sometimes goes off line because someone runs it in the UK.
LINK 4 Nearly the same as LINK 2 except with a few changes

I'm using CYFRA+ and reasonably happy with the service. I had the same problem for quite some time with the reception going out every time it rained, or the wind blew a bit. I got fed up with it, did some research on the Internet, and determined that I needed was a bigger dish.

Before I got around to it my roofers did me a favor. When they were on the roof one day they decided that the dish would make an ideal place to hang a couple of heavy winter coats. Of course this knocked it out of alignment, so I ended up on the roof myself calling my wife from my mobile mobile as she stood in front of the telly watching the green "signal strength" bar on the configuration menu. I guess I did a better job then the professional installers with their fancy tools, because I have not lost reception one bit over the past few months; rain or snow or wind.

I suggest that you play around with the alignment. I think the pros that installed my dish ended up focusing on the side lobes, a common mistake, which can make the reception look fine during perfect weather, but quickly degrades during rain.

We have a small balcony so not really the ideal place for a large dish I think. We have the standard Cyfra+ dish which is indeed small.
Perhaps I should ask the satguy to come back when it will be raining.... actually a good idea...

I don't get any domestic UK channels, but I just have the base package. I get a few English language news channels like CNN World, BBC World, France24, CNBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, EuroNews, Deutche Welle. And also Movies24, and a few odd channels like Eurosport. I think it is also possible to get SkyNews

Somebody was actually bored enough to put together a Wikipedia page in English about the service. It's 40zl a month, it works, I can't complain.

I have the same problem not getting all my SKY channels like bbc1 or 2 or channel 4

Where can i get a 2.7 mtr dish and will that solve my problems?

No idea where you can get one but it'll be a specialist job and those dishes are not cheap (think several thousand zloty). You're better off getting a high-speed internet connection and watching everything over the net using BBC iplayer, Channel 4 on-demand, etc.

Is there any reasonably pain-free way of getting iPlayer and 4oD? The lack of 4oD has been driving me crazy here, particularly with the lack of Hollyoaks*.

I'm in Warsaw. The easiest way to get British TV is to just get a Sky box and a 1 metre dish (you won't get BBC or ITV though).

Not at the moment but I understand that the EU Commission have ordered BBC and C4 to make the feed available to any IP address in the EU. Apparently they have a couple of months to comply. Although they might kill the online stuff instead....

The easiest way is to get a UK VPN and then watch it through your computer, about the best one out there is http://cienen.com/ and for $9 a month you can have 7 accounts which you can give to friends so in affect it costs you just over $1 a month.

Still haven't sorted it yet. TPSA are being a right bunch of arseholes (even by their standards). I'm kind of waivering about getting internet at home (at the moment I use a 3G modem, I could perhaps use a cable TV modem but that would need a certain amount of rewiring in the flat), I quite like not sitting in front of the computer after a day of sitting in front of the computer!
