Can someone explain the military service laws?

I am a 50 year old male and a dual Australian/Polish citizen. I have never actually been to Poland, but I might be spending a lot of time in EU countries next year, including Poland. I thought Poland had revoked conscription but I seem to be reading contradictory information. So, what is the actual situation and how might it impact on me?

As far as i'm concerned, our country has proffesional army now. Is this what you wont to know? or is it something else what i have not understand?

chaucer It doesn't. They might drag you into inactive reserve if keep asking for it, which I would suggest you do not do. Are looking for an adventure?

Steveramsfan: Conscription in Poland was formally ended in March 2009. It is now a volunteer Army. True. And a 50 year old wouldn't have had to worry even before that.

chaucer: I am a 50 year old male chaucer: I have never actually been to Poland This is strange, if you left to avoid conscription you could possibly face upto 3 years in jail and stripped of your rights of citizenship, but at 50! When did you get citizenship after your 30th birthday? So nothing to worry about. Gaining citizenship while abroad and ignoring your call up is a different matter but you are 50.

Barney Quite, If the call-up papers are thirty years old, they'll certainly be in paper form, not on any computer database, and if there was ever an issue it will be long forgotten.

Hi and thanks to everyone who replied. I did mention that I had never been to Poland - so issues of leaving Poland to avoid conscription are irrelevant. I got a Polish passport after proving (and it wasn't easy and took quite a long time) that my father was a Polish citizen. So then, if I understand it correctly there is no conscription and if I registered as a resident in Poland there would be no issues for me about military service (except in the event of a war).
