It does get quite cold... but it varies from year to year, and to tell the truth it's really beautiful in Poland during winter time. Russia's where the unbearable cold is, -20'C in winter sometimes...

ok maybe 4-5 months would be better, depending on the year, and the mountains would be the coldest areas.

Winter on the Baltic coast can also be quite tough, with strong, icy winds. The north-east (roughly the Warmia and Mazury region) is not to be sneezed at either! ;-)

if you have lived in northern india then you will be used to snow and cold weather but other parts you will find it hard as it does get cold, there are certain areas that get colder then other but in general it is a cold time, lots of layers, gloves, socks - no sarees or shalwar kammez they wont do the trick in poland.... where abouts will you be going....
christmas in poland is really enjoyable its a great time to visit.
