Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people

Canuck: Its not that Poles are rude or egocentric but that they are very sensitive people. They are too involved with their emotions and the thoughts of others that they build a wall. Sensivity leads to harshness. what a load of rubbish

Sensitivity hasn't led to harshness with me. Many are on edge but there are also many 'spokojnie' types here. More to the point is that they are ready to speak out and that's a good thing in their case. No more trampling without a fight :)

Well, it can be a temperament more than an attitude. However, what I observed that Poles don't want to debate over almost anything. Or, they want to wrap up some deep conversations as soon as possible. I don't why. Even at once upon a time, we're drawn into debates taking longer than we expect.

A temperament more than an attitude??? Please explain how you see the difference. Highlanders are renowned for their temperament but attitude is a more general thing. Don't want to debate anything???? Nonsense. Have you been at a flat/house where people have had a few voddies? They are NOT backward in coming forward with their views.

I am still in Krakow, but decided to throw my career away and go back to Manchester. Such a huge relief. I've had enough tw-ts insulting me, picking on me, trying to punch or kick me and even spitting on me. Racism or not, I can't live in a place where I come across so many rude people so often in so many places. If the Poles don't want foreigners in their country, that's fine. This isn't my country, so it's their issue. I'll just leave.

Yes. Like several days ago when a shaved gorilla spat on me, just 50 metres or so from my work place that is one of few locations where bullsh-t never happens to me. Perhaps, I should be more grateful to our high school PE teacher who taught us judo. Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore. It took only two days to sort out my UK highly-skilled migrant visa.

Not far from Mogilskie. It occurs sporadically in all sorts of places, but thankfully hasn't happened around my apartment. Violence aside, I experience a lot of random intimidation, such as the usual "chin chun chan" and some stupid monkey chanting, here and there, like right in front of the main station the other day. A while ago, someone held onto me and tried to punch me right next to the main station. I had to judo him and drop him onto the tarmac.

Many here are against Asians and have many bad words for them. The look given is strange, I saw it yesterday when a Polish woman served a Japanese woman. I helped her out a little bit.

You know what, mate? I lived in a stinking sh-t hole like Levenshulme for some years and I had no s-it like this happening to me. Some scallies tried to nick my motorbikes, but I experienced no direct insults like that. Never. Like I said, if the Poles think they are so special and vulnerable as a nation that they have to be always shielded from untermenschen like us, that's just fine. Go for that. They have their right of self-determination. I just f-cking move on.

I hear what you are saying, Yoshi. It's weird how nations as successful as Japan, America and Scotland can be seen as untermenschen. They are insular and ethnocentric but don't be too disheartened. There are many great people here who, when you get to know them, would really help you out.

I can understand his frustration. I remember having a discussion with a super student of mine who warned me about his countrymen. He said that some will just sit there like proud generals, looking down their nose at you and thinking nothing of it. Well, I am in charge and they will do as I instruct them. Otherwise, they can get out of the classroom and stop wasting my time. Some just sit there motionless and I have no time for that. Indeed, good luck Yoshi! Ganbarimashou :)

I think Poles are this way because of hitler and everything, because not only are they negative to other colors but other whites who are not polish. its not so much that they are racist but more they feel they need to stick together and everyone isnt important because they have to help eachother. also Polish people have A LOT of pride for their nationality, feeling like there better but not in a racist way. i know it is confusing

Sad Dude. Sorry you had such a bad time in Poland. But it is really no easier for any foreigner in Poland irrespective of ethnicity. I am Britsh ,white and have learned to speak Polish well. I have lived on and off in Pland for about five years. Yet I get the feeling that Poland is a great country for Poles but no one else.As they say in grafitti on the walls "Polska dla Polacow", "Poland for the Poles", and then for good measure they spray a Star of David hanging from a gallowes on every village bus shelter. Funny no one in Poland even thinks to remove racist graffitti. Why should they? Poles have little or no concept of what causes offence to others, let alone foreigners. Witness that shopkeepers rarely say hello. People generally avoid eye contact in public, also that Poles will rarely say thank you if you open a door for them ,nor will they open a door for others. Also they will walk straight out of a cafe or restaurant and leave the door open. Its dog eat dog in Poland and sod everyone else. I once found an old guy lying in the street in Warsaw semi- conscious with a bleeding head. He was lying next too a garden wall. A woman was outside cutting her hedge, she paid no attention to the poor man. When I asked her to call an ambulance. She repled that the man was probably drunk and she did not see therefore why she sould call an ambulance. So much for a christian country... Poles are I am afraid so up their own backsides and full of chippy judgmental petit bourgeois self righteousness that it is vomitous. They manage to combine this with a syrupy sentimentality, as well as a good dose of uncultured xenophobia. They are still, sadly ,very musch Homus Sovieticus,

And the bad sides? ;) Seriously though, I was very close to saying 'Ty Kur*o' today to a woman that didn't say thank you for me holding open the door for a while. That really gets my goat when they just walk past.

Seanus: Exactly, it makes no sense to use Hitler as an excuse. Dudes, Western europe could talk about and feel about the world war II "openly" while in East block only 1 story was printed and only that one was allowed to hear. People now in Poland are allowed to express their feelings freely. So I don't see it as wierd when taking examples of why and what from ww2 and with Hitler. Anyone who loves Poland beyond anything = Poles other enthicities are not worth anything. (Except for Hungarians for instance or Lithuanians) Most people from westenr europe thinks that "Oh they dislike others Rascists!!" But fellas there is a difference between disliking colour of skin and other nations.

GoodnightVienna I just have to quote that about Poles never saying Thank You, my polish friend seems to be the same. He never said Thank You before I gave him stern warning that unless he shows his gratitude in kind or words I will not do anything for him. Maybe its Polish Culture? He definitely learnt a lesson and of course he almost always say "thank you" now.

Aussie Sheila: he almost always say "thank you" now. Depends on the family backround, I get "whipped" by my Polish family if I don't say "Dziękuje" for the smallest of things. Wich is the opposite of my Norwegian relatives ;)

Forbidden, LOL. Not quite but you will encounter reactions like Aussie Shiela's. It is basic etiquette and part of living together to say thank you. I know everyone is different and us foreigners are just guests but is is glaringly embarrassing at times to see the lack of gratitude.

I would suggest that asking why polish people are rascist(and going off about it in such theoretical detail no less) and not why humans are rascist is a little absurd. It smacks a little of how the rascists think themselves.
