Yes, freedom of speech and all that lol. And quite rightly sticking up for what you believe in and having the freedom to do so.

Would be a sad world if we just agreed on change for change sake. This thread has certainly shown what posters characters are like. To change something regardless of what the majority <who posted> thought is a bit like Fidel Castro saying 'you will like it, because it is good for you'. Having said that, he has lived to a ripe old age and does remarkable well considering he is not supposed to have any wealth of his own. But I digress......LOL.

I've refered to the Admin before as 'commnist leaders' Castro, Stalin, Yao dosen't matter they have the same characteristics :) What's so ironic is that Poland went through many years of communism and came out the other end worse of, you'de think they would learn something wouldn't you, lol.

That's the US for you then isn't it ? But we're not Americans <thank God> lol...

So, I wonder Admin where does your stubborn streak come from then ? America or Poland ?

they just can't admit that it would be better back on the left becuase it means their original idea of having it on the right didn't work out so good

My guess - Poland

Clearly he has no idea what he is doing. I have yet to see a logical explanation for all of this. So far it looks like Admin, The Lord, took upon himself to decide what is the best for us, the users.
Its sad really.

Sorry Sofi, didn't mean to misquote. It's just a prove that Admin, instead messing about with the layout, should concentrate on issues like that one.

I can think of a dozen things i'd rather do than read 14 pages of off-topic BS. The main purpose of my post was to give my 2 cents(or my vote) about the change but it doesnt seem like this thread is about the layout anymore:)

BUT all Admin has to do is ban everyone who disagrees with him and only allow the ones who agree with him to vote then he will have a 100% majority BUT that is always assuming that (a) he agrees with a vote taking place and (b) that he would take notice of any fair vote anyways and (c) even if (a) and (b) were welcome , would he change things back if the majority voted for it ?

Admin wouldn't want them on the left hand side anyway because it would make the site look logical, well ordered, easy on the eye and easy to read. A lot of people would be happier, there would be no more controversy, there would be better things to use your energy discussing. So all in all, Admin as you can see has a vested interest in keeping us all unhappy.

Bet I get banned now but I like Admin, I think he has some nice qualities <somewhere> hahaha ! <joke>

0 - 5

But can we have the 5 on the left and the zero on the right.
Lady in red   Mar 12, 08, 17:44 /  #
5=0

Moving back to the left = 5

Leaving on the right=0
PinkJewel   Mar 12, 08, 17:48 /  #
5-1 then, I like it on the right side.

i mentioned this before, it would be nice to have an ability to poll on this forum. i think it would be interesting. this is the only forum i have seen in a long, long time that doesn't have polls.

as to left or right.. doesn't matter really. i am sure i won't post at all if it is center biased and w/o frames. if we're going for different, then it's there. in the end it's the content that will either attract or repel posters not the looks.

i also think it would be nice to have a little flag from posters' country of residence.

The layout change was done about noon time on Thursday, March 6, 2008.

Here are some stats that may tell something about the effects of the change on the overall "popularity" (the number of visitors). The stats reflect a percentage change of a particular day in this and the last week (Feb 29 through March 5).

Comparing the same days in a relatively small range of time is the most accurate.

Thu, March 6: +2.18% - LAYOUT CHANGE
Fri, March 7: +0.8%
Sat, March 8: -1.47%
Sun, March 9: -0.8%
Mon, March 10: -1.72%
Tue, March 11: +1.60%
Wed, March 12: +2.46%

As I mentioned at the beginning, it takes some time (usually a couple/a few days) to get used to the new layout, but after that it should work well for most of us.

What makes you think people come to the polishforums because of the left of right hand layout? How about other variables?

lets see:

Thu, March 6: +2.18% - LAYOUT CHANGE Weekend is approaching. People look for people before the weekend.
Fri, March 7: +0.8% Looking some more.
Sat, March 8: -1.47% Found them! And guess what! It Women's Day in Poland. Many get drunk. Not time for browsing, hard to navigate with the mouse when you're drunk. Major snow storm in North Eastern parts of the US and Canada. Shoveling snow takes hours.
Sun, March 9: -0.8% Major hangover. The bright computer screen makes it only worse. The snow storm in N. East continues.
Mon, March 10: -1.72% Lots gossip after the March the 8th drinking. Some still trying to cure their hangover.
Tue, March 11: +1.60% Right hand layout back in place. Hangover cured. March break in N. America. Kids have more time than usual. Many parents stay at home.
Wed, March 12: +2.39% (projected) Some are trying to project another date for the next weekend. March break continues.

I think you didn't understand the week-to-week approach. The days are compared to the same days of the week: Thursday this week to Thursday last week, Friday this week to Friday last week, etc. Otherwise, as you noted, it wouldn't' be very accurate.

These numbers are meaningless.
Still, it would be nice to know what your reason was for the change?
What are the benefits of the new layout? I am pretty sure there is none otherwise most sites would have it.

Believe me, I understand that approach very well. And that is the approach my prior comments adhere to. I also understand that comparing two respective days of the week using a sample of two days for each of the two weeks is not much of statistical science.

How then do you explain the +1.60% on last Tuesday when the layout was in fact left handed for a good part of the day?

Do you think people come to polishforums.com because google tells them the layout is right handed?

I know of multitude of other forums with left handed layout, and membership on those forums is soaring. Doctissimo.fr has well over 1/2 million members. Their layout is left handed. Do you think it's the layout that helped to drive the membership to such high numbers? Or was it the French language? Or maybe the smileys?

Or is it what the MEMBERS write? Think about it when you have a spare minute.

It only makes it a little more sad that you think you got statistics behind you. You don't. You have an insignificant sample of data, which by the way is "polluted" by so many other factors that the "stats" become useless.

Nothing changed with the approach to users 'n things here so I can't help but repeat the same - you guys are wasting your talent on fluff and reinventing the wheel.

You compare commercial websites with this one. When we put advertising on 30% of the pages, we'll listen to all members (if possible) - we'll add smileys, signatures, flags, and all other stuff that is requested in the feedback section. For now, we believe in simplicity, efficiency, and accessibility.

You obviously don't know the backgrounds of some of the posters in this thread and why they may take this or that position on the matter (or most of the matters that admins here would ever take), but that's something between us and them.

The majority of posts are in Relationships section and somewhat related to it Translations section. Believe me “the meat” is not in the text! :)
- easier reading -debatable
- easier writing - no difference
