I'd like to see RSS feeds on this site it would be excellent if I could subscribe to individual categories.

Anyone else use RSS?

I thought the same thing, but didn't want to mention it for fear of being labelled a geek!

Thing I don't like about my RSS reader (Outlook 2007) is that it checks the feeds everytime you check your email. What reader do you use cjjc?

I'm on OS X so I use the live bookmarks feature of Firefox.

so I use the live bookmarks feature of Firefox.

I might check it out (again). I'm using Chrome on this laptop and that doesn't seem to have any RSS support at all.

I am a closet geek. I try to do cool things to cancel out my geekiness.

I hear Chrome is fast but I'm not on Windows and I'm waiting for the Mac version. Anyways... we're getting off topic!

Some of us don't even know what any of this means, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm not a geek, although I don't believe I am one.

Can we have content and context sensitive RSS feeds with applied artificial intelligence used to filter the feed. The rules engines must know when I have had one too many pints to alter the content of the feed to filter out words of more than one syllable.

We used to have RSS but removed it for 2 reasons:

1. Few people actually used it.
2. It was used by content scrapers.

Thank you admin

Admin:
1. Few people actually used it.

I understand this as few people actually know what it is but I think in time it will become a more de-facto method of browsing internet sites. RSS can significantly increase site traffic and this has been documented by ALEXA surely it couldn't hurt the site so much?

I think I know what you mean but I am not sure I understand, if you don't mind could you elaborate?

I realise you are busy.

Thanks.

It's doubtful it would become a favorite method because most webmasters (especially those who have any kind of advertisement on the site, ie. 80%+) won't allow that because for them using RSS is like listening to live music without paying for the concert ticket :). Besides using RSS is 'boring' for most people since you have only text and no other content. RSS has existed for a few years and if it hasn't become popular yet it probably never will.

Note that if you use the Checker it works in a very similar way to RSS.

I'm not convinced. Even with the checker, it's not easy to get the results you want. There always seems to be more than you can be bothered to deal with or you feel like you're actually missing out on something.

I have to disagree, I know what you are saying but you don't serve ads anyway so the argument doesn't stand IMO. As for it not becoming a favourite method I totally agree but people do click through on RSS or that's what I do with live bookmarks on firefox then I get my content and the ads. My example is this: I want to keep an eye on the Jobs Offered section of this site with the addition of an RSS feed for that page I could do that everyday with minimal fuss without it I get mixed results in the checker which as osiol said is not easy to get especially if you want to keep an eye on several sections of the site (you just cant do that individually).

I'm not saying do it I just think for the more savvy of us it would be a welcome feature hence the title of my thread. I can see how it would be a pain to implement and for the very few users of it, it probably isn't worth your while.

I like RSS it gives me choice and value.

Just my 2 gr. and thanks for taking the time to talk about it.

RSS has been installed, enjoy! It lists all threads except the ones from Off-Topic discussions (which are available for registered members only).

Even though I'm not sure how you'd like to read only threads from specific forum, that is only possible from Checker.

Nothing to do with RSS but would like to add that on right-top of each post their is day mentioned, so it would be great to have Today in Bold like it used to be, its just more easier to notice todays posts..

I'm not sure it's working properly (might just be my reader). Is it cached? If so, for how long?

The RSS feed seems to deliver results several minutes later than the checker. I have tried the RSS reader in Outlook 2007 and also Google Reader.

It is working as it should. Of course it will be slower than the checker where you have direct and instant access to database. Most RSS software by default refresh every 30-60 minutes, in some you can specify the time but the minimum refresh time is usually 5 minutes. That makes sense because otherwise the database could get overloaded if there are many subscribers.

I think you cannot specify the time in Google Reader so I'd suggest to try IE or Firefox too.

without this the RSS feed isn't particularly useful.
And, as you say, the checker is quite good.
