Where is PF heading (Site Interface/Design wise) in the future?

Hello,

(Firstly just to state I don't want to step on any ones toes here, I'm not saying the site is bad in any way and needs to change, I just wanted to raise the topic)

I just wondered where forum members stand on where they would like to see the website go in the future in terms of web interface and design?

I would personally like to see a voting system similar to some websites such as digg.com whereby if somebody posts something negative and off topic it can be 'buried' based on what other forum users think, in the same way it can be voted up to indicate it is a good post in the opinions of the forum users. If this happened the forum would become somewhat self moderating with cyberpunks like noimmi's vulgar comments being buried and only accessible to those who want to read them.

I'm not saying it has to happen, I just wanted to throw the idea out there for dicussion...

What about everybody else? Do you have ideas and opinions on how the site can move forwards?

(Apologies to Admin if he thinks I should stay out of what is essentially his/site owners business)

I watched a trial of this on another forum a couple of months ago and it didn't last a week. What happened in that case was people just negatively voted for people they didn't like so their posts were voted against regardless of whether they were relevant or not. So in that sense, self-moderation didn't work. Another way it didn't work was that users just couldn't be bothered with it.

There is another way you can "self-moderate" when it comes to posters like noimmigration, just don't react to them. :)

I'd like to see the 'ignore' option. That is, if in your opinion someone writes just bull$hit, you could switch 'ignore' on the given pr!ck or c*nt and voila - you don't see their posts or threads.

True. All devices have an off button. Apart from my sat nav apparently

I'll keep that in mind when I look out for your postings, Bart ;) ;)

Just kidding, you are one of the better posters :)

Yeah, I think PFs after removing noimmi are a better place
Constructive criticism - yes
Aggression and sh!t stirring - no

Well, there has been more discussion of late. Too many were just posting nonsense, which is against the rules too, LOL. Trivial postings.

Interesting :) I've seen it work several times though, you aren't suggesting people would do such a thing as vote posts up and down based on their personal opinions of the poster and not the content of the post on pf are you ;)

I see your point, pf is strange in this sense (to me any ways)

I agree to some extent but if you have strong feelings on some topics such as child abuse and rape etc it is difficult to hold your tongue. (or should that be fingers)

Thanks for your input PD

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Who said it was broken?

I just said it's something I'd like to discuss.

Content is king as they say. i actually like the simplicity of the interface design here. Too many sites (especially those jumping on the WWW2 bandwagon) use too many gizmos and techniques. KISS.

Agreed. It was the name of my first blog post!

KISS

That and have the avatars on the left. Things would be peachy.

Agree. KISS ("Keep it simple stupid") - also agree.

The question is what features to remove, not what to add ;). The most important thing of a forum should be the content of forum posts, not other things.

more features = more distraction

(not to mention more features decrease website performance and security)

LOL

Back to the future it is then!

Another web term comes to mind ;)

Innovate or die! ;)

I was just throwing the question out there, I didn't expect such a negative response people! I did state it was purely hypothetical!

When was the written word invented, 5,000 years ago? :)

DANGER OFF TOPIC ;)

When was the written word invented, 5,000 years ago? :)

It's a strange question Admin, I mean didn't history only begin when it was first written?

BACK ON TOPIC :)

No in all seriousness I just wondered if anyone had any ideas around where they see the forum going, everyone is quick to moan that it isn't what it used to be yet nobody wants to talk about how to attract more original content.

I hope you know what I'm getting at... the digg thing was just to get people talking!

What about people who are not quite popular because of their different views and opinions? They can't say what they want just because bunch of sheeps don't like them?

Well I don't speak for everyone of course but if someone posts something that is stupid and derogatory then I would vote it down. If they posted something interesting, correct, on topic and thought provoking then I would vote it up.

It's open to abuse, I admit.

This forum has barely changed since I have first joined. I think it was.. even more gray than it is now and something tells me that avatars and names were on the left, not right like at the moment. It was a change which I couldnt get used to for quite a while! I like it all simple.

I thought you might have had a more interesting input to be honest, since you were one of the ones I was talking about earlier who claim the site isn't what it used to be.

Just so you know
No offence intended. I know you don't like me and I'd hate for you to take it the wrong way, I am talking purely about the topic.

Ah, worried that your opinions would be voted down because you actually annoy people. It's what I thought. If your opinions were interesting and not inflammatory, why would you worry?

I don't mind them and I'm a sheep.

PF should be more about discussion. Some folk would do well to remind themselves that this is the function of the site. There is a lot of name calling in general.
