Right, this has been confusing me and I plan on baking next week so I need to know. When I look for condensed milk, I see a lot of it labelled as such in cartons and tubes and such like. The cartons I have tried taste more like evaporated milk and the tubes often seem to be flavoured. So what should I be looking for on the label that will be identical to the sweetened condensed milk that makes caramel when you cook it down with stuff (as in fat content, words for sweetened, etc).

Zagęszczone mleko I think. I bought some the other day for putting into coffee. It gives it a lovely texture.

The most famous brand is the blue one. One side is written in English and the other in Polish. It is evaporated, though, and that's the problem. Try Gaa's suggestion.

I will ask in the shop along the lines of Gaa's idea. Szkotja Actually gonna try to make millionaire's shortbread. I would make tablet but i have never managed to get the texture right. It always ends up essentially with the texture of munching brown sugar which ain't so pleasant. Got myself some decent scottish recipes. Square sausage next week because Tesco have beef and pork mince on sale! Got my fridge/freezer filled with tattie scones at the moment in anticipation!

The evaporated stuff is a decent plan B. Yeah, I found that when I was buying cream that "do zupy" was more like what we would call sour cream and "do kawy" was normal cream. I have never used evaporated milk for millionaire's shortbread but I am sure that it is easy enough to make as they are, essentially, the same thing, just more cooking and sweetening. I am off to the big Tesco on Monday so I should be able to find it easy enough in there...it's only small shops round my house so selection can be a problem at times. Seanus: Oh, also, look for Winiary products as they are an offshoot of Nestle here in Poland. Yeah, I know the ones...are they related in any way to the Maggi that you see in asia? Their logos seemed similar.

Cardno85: millionaire's shortbread I find this is too sweet for me, which is a bit weird since I love tablet which is essentially just sugar. Tattie scones in the freezer ? You must be saving them for something special - if I was living in Pl they would be gone by now. ( BTW - Ireland won the Shinty/hurling - close game tho )

Saves me having to make them again next week. I have a fridge full to do me over the weekend (it's all I have to eat...wages are on Monday!). Then next week I will raid the freezer supply when i make square sausage...gotta love square slice and tattie scone rolls! As for the millionaires shortbread...i find them easier to eat than tablet funnily enough!

I loved sipping at that stuff. It has such a rich taste. I generally loved Nestle tinned cream when I was a kid. I didn't gain weight like I do now :) Tesco should have sth good. The dairy section here in Gliwice is quite big. I think they may have what you are after.
