Yeah ! It is a polish food and it's called krokiety - awesome !!!

i know i know begins with a G ... Goblaki i think -- correct me if wrong on spelling :) all my cookbooks are packed away as i move house next week

Golabki - Cabbage Rolls, and it dosn't have to be lamb, could be other meats, plus my mom always added rice as well to breakup the meat and add different texture to the dish.

Man, I'm hungry now and its all your fault. ;o)

All the best
anna_chmiel   Apr 29, 07, 06:54 /  #

My sentiments, exactly! Except I would move paczki to the top of the list. When we were kids my mom used to make them for us, and we called them "puntchkas" and woud literally beg her for them ! :)

She got a lot of leverage out of that. Like: "Clean your room and mow the lawn first. . ." No problem!

Next time I visit Poland, I will need some cheese. Good British cheese is fantastic. Polish food generally, is fantastic, but I'm yet to find a good Polish cheese. My preferences are soft blues or light and crumbly.

Polish diary produecers:
blue cheese - Rokpol or Lazur are decent (IMHO),
Brie and Camembert - usually suck, only Turek (a company) make some that I could eat, but they're not as good as French cheese of course, but I suggest you to avoid most of those types, even if the company/brand name sounds French (it's usually some Polish or German company selling their stuff with more catchy names)

and there's always the yummy, white fresh cheese (twaróg) :)

Milona - The food of kings, preferably stuffed with Polish mushrooms

Chicken soup with noodles

The smoked goats cheese you buy in the south

The warm Polish beer in the winter, Harnas or whatever,

Cielbasa

Turku Cheese

Polish bread

....forget it, it would be easier to pick the foods I don't like
1) Pierogi 2)Greek Fish (was nice at first but I overdid it 3) The pasta/raisin dish served at XMAS.

All other Polish food is delicious and of a better standard than a lot of the food produced in the west, hence the low incidence of hypertension and obesity among the Polish population.
As Western foods and farming methods move in, this is unfortunately changing :-(
