Is lamb big in Poland?

I served my Polish flatmate a roast lamb dinner recently. He asked what the meat was and I told him lamb. He told me he'd never eaten lamb before! As far as meats go, the quantities I eat run in roughly this order: 1. Pig 2. Cow 3. Sheep 4. Chicken How does this compare with a typical Polish diet? If anyone puts donkey in their list, I'll give you a good solid hoofing! Does Poland have a low ovine population?

There is quite a lot of lamb produced in Poland but it gets exported to Italy as the Poles don't like it - I've heard that they get put off by the smell. I've tried it and it's lovely!

I love lamb but only Greek and Italian restaurants know how to make it! Especially Greek. There is no smell, just heavenly taste. I've learn to improvise the dishes somewhat and enjoy it at home as well. It's about preparation and spices. If not done properly - you're right, the taste and smell are too overwhelming to enjoy to meat. I tried lamb in Chicago at one of the Highlander's restaurant, thinking they should know how to do it, but I did not like it, just salt and pepper does not cut it. I make it better at home.

I have to say I've never seen a sheep in Poland. I haven't spent enough time there to look though. I have seen a man on a bicycle leading two cows down a road. Quoting: Eurola If not done properly - you're right, the taste and smell are too overwhelming to enjoy to Rosemary and mint sauce are quite powerful flavours that can combat the force of the lamb! If lamb is eaten, what herbs, spices and condiments are usually associated with it?

I don't like mint flavor and don't use mint jelly. Rosemary, oregano, garlic, lemon, any or even all will do wonders to lamb. A touch of tomato sauce as well. I buy already mixed Greek spices at Greek deli. I bought one recently at Trader Joe's store, which is also wonderful. The store and the spice! :) Lamb needs to be marinated at least overnight with your favorite spices before grilling, braising, roasting...whatever. Yammm, almost like kielbasa z kapusta! :)

lamb is alright, ppl in poland eat a lot of it in certain region (highlanders mostly) I myself prefer pigs, cows and donkeys obviously ^^

Sheep, throughout much of Britain's pre-industrial history, were the most significant thing in our economy. You can't avoid the bleating little so-and-sos in much of our countryside. I eat lamb at least once a week. To meet someone who has survived for 20 years without tasting one of the major nutrients was a bit of a shock.

well donkey its a fact that lamb isnt big in poland, but you prolly never eaten boar.

lamb is not very common, not like these indian restaurants in london,,, everything is lamb lamb

Is lamb big in Poland? A lamb weighs about 120 pounds and yields approximately 60 to 72 pounds of retail lamb cuts, which include bone and fat. That's pretty big.

I've tried it and it's lovely! thats mutton (adult sheep, hence the smell) youre thinking about. it used to be big years ago. Lamb isnt that popular, a bit expensive, but we do eat veal a lot.

Chicken - free range only Cow No pigs - nothing to do with religion -it just makes me ill Lamb cooked by my fair hand on a Sunday roasted - dont like anyone elses :)))) have tried boar - very nice :) tried dear - yummy (sorry rudolph) tried horse once - not very nice (bloody Italians)
