Looking for a recipe for poppy seed strudel/cake

What is a good recipe for this. I want to try making my own as it's costing me a fortune at the bakery :)

could you describe, the particular kind you want to bake :) any of those here?

The kind we have been buying is labeled strudel or cake on the label. It is a sweet bread/cake and has a big cavity full of poppy seed or poppy seed/walnut filling. It looks like the filling was spread on the dough and then rolled togeher leaving a crescent shaped area with the filling. Some look like they might have been baked in a loaf pan and others like a tube. Am I making any sense? :) Something like this although most I get have more cake/bread type area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makowiec

for the recipe go here and for step-by-step photos of assembling the cake here to make your life easier you could buy the filling in any polish delis, look for a big can of "masa makowa" :) Good luck and let us know if it's the taste you are looking for :)

Thank you very much Olasz and everybody. I like food in general so anything will be something fun to try, and sweet cake and bread is like candy to me --- that looks perfect. I'll check for the masa makowa next week. The grocery/meat store I go to , most of the employees don't speak english so it is next to impossible for me to try and explain, or ask questions. :)

Dziekuje for those links!!!! that is closer to what I was use to as a child... Poppyseed, dark and golden raisins - yum The local farmers market has an Amish group that makes the roll and it is not as good as I remember. The closest was associated with an American Legion Hall in Scranton, PA and they charge $12 for a 12 inch loaf. yikes I will have to keep this recipe to check against the one I have (unfortuanately we are moving this summer and it is already packed away). ~francesca
