potato cake with bacon?

My grandma used to make this cake that consisted of potatoes and bacon. It was generally baked in a square or rectangular pan. It was delicious and served with sour cream, does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a recipe that can be shared? Thanks :)

I think it's nicer to bake it. We had a mini pot luck at work recently - I took my goł±bki! :) Most of the other dishes were Romanian though... :)

Here is one:

* 3/4 pound (1 large) russet (baking) potato
* 2 slices of cooked lean bacon, crumbled fine
* 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh chives or green part of scallion
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* sour cream as an accompaniment if desired

Preparation

Peel the potato, grate it coarse, and press it between several thicknesses of paper towel to remove any excess moisture. In a bowl stir together the potato, the bacon, the chives, and salt and pepper to taste. In a large heavy skillet heat the oil over moderately high heat until it is hot but not smoking, form the potato mixture into 4 patties, and cook the patties, tamping them down with a spatula, for 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until the pancakes are golden brown and cooked through. Serve the pancakes with the sour cream.

(I think you might have to add some oil into the mixture if you plan to bake it.....probably for 400 degrees for 45 minutes)

Thanks to everyone for their replies...I've googled a few things under "babka ziemniaczana" and we'll see how this turns out. Now I just have to get my butt in gear and go grocery shopping!

I talked to a couple of Polish people today who had never heard of it. Is it a dish more specific to a region of Poland maybe?
