Recipe for mince meat dish?

Tracyann   Jun 5, 09, 20:51 /  #
I dont know if anyone can help, my grandfather (rest his soul) was polish and he used to make a meat dish which was large sized meatballs in a very think and tasty gravy.

In english he used to say the were call granades. I know it was mince meat not sure if beef or pork definately onions in it.

Any way I digress, he has long since passed away and I would so love to try and make these for my children as I loved them and I unfortunately can not find any receipe that sounds anything like it.

Can any one help please with finding out what this recepie might containe

Thanks so much in advance

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
2 med.-size onions, minced
3 tbsp. milk
6 slices bread
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. white pepper
Cooking oil for frying
5 c. water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 stalk celery, diced
1 carrot, diced
4 tbsp. all-purpose flour
Combine beef, pork, 1 onion, milk, bread, eggs, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Mix well and make into small balls. Heat oil and fry meatballs until browned on all sides. Set aside.
Boil 4 1/2 cups water. Add bouillon cubes, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add meatballs. Simmer for 1 hour. Add celery, carrot, and remaining onion. Boil slowly for 30 minutes.

Mix flour with 1/2 cup water. Pour mixture into meatballs, stirring constantly until thickened. Cook for 10 minutes. Serve hot with mashed potatoes.

Make these all the time :)

Mince meat has a different take in some cultures. I think of meat, usually we used roast beef, mixed with apples and lots of spices such as cinnamon and cloves. My mother mixedTtogether and baked it a very low heat in the oven for something like 10-12 hours. This is put into a pie. In the U.S. one seldom now finds real mince meat; rather it is only the apple mixture. Meatballs are something quite different.

ground beef, ground pork and onion

This is a spanking idea, its exactly as the Italians make their meatballs.
