Hello clairejane,
And welcome to the Polish Forums

Click here to look at some other threads that might help you.
You can also use the search box at the top right corner of this page.

I think it is a very nice idea to cook your boyfriend some traditional dish from his country.

Best of luck.

Have you tried looking for a recipe book that covers European recipes. There might be the odd book. Recipes like cabbage rolls and borscht are a couple that I know of. One desert would be pazcki. Oh, a 3rd dinner item would be perogi. Good luck.

Suggestions for some dishes like babcia used to make:

zrazy wołowe zawijane z kaszą gryczaną i buraczkami
(Beef roll-ups with buckwheat groats and braised beetroot.)

kurczak nadziewnay po polsku z kartofelkami i mizerią
(roast chikcen with dill-flavoured bread, liver & meat stuffing with boiledpotatoes and sliced cucumbers with sour cream.)

kotlet schabowy z tłuczonymi kartoflami i kapustą duszoną
(pounded, breaded pork cutlet with mashed potatoes and stewed cabbage or sauerkraut.)

For dessert: a big (non-grandmotherly) kiss!

You really should not eat steak tartar these days.. unless you can get beef from very freshly slaughtered cow.. like if your neighbor kills a cow he treated very well.

Most store bought meat comes in from filthy slaughter houses these days, ecoli quite common from beef. Parasites also.

Beef on store shelves can be a year old or more, having been frozen.
