Warsaw: where to find DECENT chickens and marzipan!

I hope this doesn't get moved elsewhere with less traffic esp as there's the question about steak still in this section!!

Supermarket chicken is bleurgh, I realise I am spoiled in wanting decent chicken and preferably organic/free range. Yes I know it will cost plenty but I am thinking for a special occaision. Where can I get this in Warsaw? The usual answer is "in the country from a farmer" which is not much use!

Secondly, has anyone seen marzipan? Not the stuff in chocolate, blocks of proper marzipan.

I sometimes see very good chicken at Hala Mirowska. I've never looked for marzipan.

Hala Mirowska does indeed have good chicken. So does the Bomi supermarket in the Klif Centre on okopowa.

When I've needed marzipan, I've had to make it.

sometimes you can get marzipan in Lidl but close to Christmas time

For marzipan you definitely have to go to Germany. At this time of the year it's everywhere.

Interesting, but THAT is not marzipan. That's candy for alcoholics... ;)
Real marzipan is prepared with rose water, almonds, sugar and water only.

Though the boozy version is great on a \christmas cake :-))

About a year ago I found marzipan (block-style, for my Christmas cake), in Piotr and Pawel.

Lidl does have marzipan in their Christmas food section now, but it's the chocolate-covered type.

is this Luebecker Marzipan? - i love it - it is so delicate being only mildly sweet contrary to most other marzipans - the chocalate coating is of bitterly chocalate so it does not distort the genuine marzipan pleasure ;)

I knew they'd move me!!!!!!! At least this is a forum that gets traffic but I am not asking about Polish food lmao. I think they just like moving me cos they know I will grumble. Just kidding.

I wouldn't waste good Luebeck marzipan for this purpose, I am going to make a Nigella Lawson cake which isn't conventional: you take a whole block of the usual sugary marzipan, cut it into cubes and freeze it. Then you chop dried pears, good quality fruits (I am going to use jumbo raisins and MAYBE dried cherries) and you macerate them in Bacardi for a few days - then make the cake mix, add your boozy fruits and the frozen marzipan cubes and bake it slooooooooowly (which is why the marzipan is frozen) and it is heavenly heavenly heavenly.

Thanks re the chicken, even in the Piotr i Paweł I went to there was the usual intensively reared fishmeal fed stuff (urgh).

My friend claimed you can get marzipan everywhere and I said he was getting confused with the chocolate covered stuff which is not what I want:) So thanks for proving me right.

Harry, does this mean the Hilton lunch on Xmas Day is expat hangout hell/heaven (depending on your perspective)? I am torn what to do for Xmas Day itself, I am going to see the family in the UK just before Xmas and coming back on Xmas Eve (want to be in Poland for Wiligia). Boxing Day is sorted (hence need for a cake!) - was thinking I'd zonk out and enjoy not having the Queen to laugh at for a change but what DO people do here on Xmas Day if they are still early into the process of integration (i.e. not married to someone Polish or dating someone Polish etc etc).
