My mom used to make a soup we called zaplaska soup. It was white with potatoes, carrotts, and celery. I know she used flour and butter, but I don't remember much else. Does anyone know what I am talking about, and is there a recipe?

Do you think it could be vegetable soup with zasma¿ka?

zasma¿ka makes the soup become thicker. simply melt a spoon of butter on a pan and fry a spoon of flour in it, then add that to the boiling vegetable soup.

Potato Soup (Kartoflanka)
Here's my recipe:
8 cups of H2O
3 large potatoes , peeled and cut in 1/4" cubes
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
1 tsp. salt
Freshly ground pepper
4 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
(1 cup sour cream) try with or without or as a topping with dill

In large kettle, place vegetables and butter. Saute for 3 minutes and season with salt and pepper. Add water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. In a bowl, blend 2 tablespoons flour and (sour cream). Pour flour mixture into kettle. Stir and bring to a boil. Dollop of (sour cream) and sprinkle with minced dill.
Smacznego!

Maybe that is how you heard zapra¿ka said. In some dialects that is the word for roux (simmered fat & flour soup thickener).
