hi

I want to write to a friend of mine that I have sort of neglected (not meaning to) for quite a number of months as I had so much turmoil going on here that I found little time to think about other things.

I mainly just need help with the first part and the rest of the letter I can write. The person is someone that has been unbelievably helpful to me over a number of years now, we are not romantic, nor is this meant in a romantic sense, but I want to convey that they are a friend I really do care about and that I am sorry for being so negligent. Basically i am attempting to start the letter with something like

My dearest (name here),
I am very sorry for not writing in such a long time. You have been very good to me and again I have disappeared. I have wanted to write, but have let work pressures I have here get the better of me. I know that is not an excuse and I just want to apologize.

The rest I will write, as I was writing a lot and whilst my grammar is terrible, I am learning and that is understood. I am just wanting to make sure I am not coming across as some guy sleazing by using the wrong words and for example conveying something like "my love" or anything like that.

I really appreciate any assistance with this.

Moja droga name, (or "Najdroższa name" - that's a direct translation)

I presumed you're sending it to a girl, if it's otherwise let me know because I'd have to change few things. It's not a straight translation more like:

I am very sorry for the lack of contact in such a long time. You have been very good to me and again I have disappeared just like that. I have wanted to write, but had to let the work pressure that I have here take most of my time. I know that it is not an excuse, I'd like to apologize to You.

If you don't want the letter to appear romantic or anything suggesting your feelings towards the person, don't use the words dearest - najdroższa or at the end- with love.
Just keep it simple as if writing to a good friend.

My version (man to woman) :

Witaj......(put her name here)! Hello.....!
