"bardzo niestety" should be translated as "most unfortunately"

That doesn't look like proper Polish to me. Bardzo and niestety don't really go together?
Bardzo - very
Niestety - unfortunately

You're right, but...
it looks like an answer to some early question/or statement and when you pot comma between the words "..bardzo, niestety" it reads:
"...very much, unfortunately"

ie: "... (tęsknię) bardzo, niestety" reads: "..(miss you) very much, unfortunately"

Yes, you're right I didn't think of it this way. It might have been also:

Lubisz mnie? (Do you like me?)
Bardzo, niestety mam chłopaka. (Very much, unfortunately I have a boyfriend.)

NOTE: in this case the two words must be seperated with a coma.

It doesn't matter what kind of example we put, as we only know "bardzo niestety" which should be separated by comma to understand the whole text " BrokenOwl" received.

And it means "...very much, unfortunately"

It does matter where it is in the sentence. That's what shows whether it's a zdanie złożone and if it is then what is a zdanie nadrzędne in it. We don't know the context because BrokenOwl didn't post the whole sentence.

We know (BrokenOwl explained) it ends with "bardzo niestety" that's why comma is needed and then you can find out from the whole sentence, to what "bardzo" is referring.
