Can someone tell me what the name for Wojciech is in English.

IE: Wladek is Walter as Wojciech is ????????

Traditionally it's assumed that it's Albert

Thanks I also read that Geroge was used but thought that Jurek was George. I'll go with Albert. (interesting to me how Albert = Wojciech as they are not even close in spelling)

It's not Albert, but Adalbert - the Latin for Wojciech. A direct translation, I presume (haven't the foggiest what Adalbert means, though) ;-)

Michal_857 and Magdalena are right it's Adalbert, in honor of St. Adalbert of Prague to be exact. In Polish ¦w. Wojciech. George was probably taken from Catholic calendar in confusion, the feast day of both is April 23rd in Polish calendar while many Anglo calendars just show St. George for that day. In any case Wojciech is much more important saint for Poles since he is a patron St. of Poland, Czech Republic and Hungry. He was a missionary bishop, killed by pagans, according to the legend Polish king, Boleslaw II bought his corpse from them paying the amount of gold weighing as much as the saint himself. He was declared the patron saint of Poland in the 11th century and his Latin biography marks the beginning of Latin Polish literature.

In fact it is not a translation.

It is just a name taken by St. Wojciech (Cz. Vojtìch) after his mentor.

"Wojciech" is a Slavic name and it means more or less "the one who enjoys fighting", or "one who likes to be a solidier".
I don't know if it can be directly translated to English, but if you really need to, you should search for an English equivalent of similar meaning.

The name William means 'determined protector' which is similar to the definition of Wojciech that Cinek provided.

Adalbert from old Germanic adal (noble) and beraht (brilliant). Czech Vojtech and Polish Wojciech are customary equivalents of Adalbert, although they come from Slavonic roots: woj (warrior) and tech/ciech (joy).
