Hi,

Can someone help me with a few Polish words, I am trying to get the right word to use?

What is the exact meaning of these words used on their own?

1. MOWIC
2. TANI
3. GADAC
4. ROZMOWA

As well as the words above. What would be the correct words to use for the following ( may be the same question but the other way around )

1. talk
2. hello
3. dial
4. chat
5. speak

I appreciate the help.

Polson,

Thanks this is really helpful.

If I wanted to say

1. Phone Poland
2. Call Poland
3. Polish Chat

I'm trying to get a good name for a new service for making international calls to Poland. Any suggestions?

You're welcome.

1. Phone Poland, is this a sentence or just two separate words?
Telefon Polska?

My Polish is limited, i'm still learning ;)
Let's hope a Polish-speaking person will sneak in this thread.
Good luck anyway.

krysia:
Dzwoń do Polski

Michal:
Zadzwoń do Polski.

Both can be correct, depends on the meaning of the sentence.

No, zadzwoń do Polski is correct. Dzwoń is quite different.

No, zadzwoń do Polski is correct. Dzwoń is quite different.

I depends on what the rest of the sentence is. Zadzwoń is perfective form and dzwoń is imperfective form.

Are you seriously telling us you would say for example "Często zadzwonię do Polski"??? In this case it's not correct.

In some cases you should use zadzwoń, and in some cases dzwoń.

Or listen to the traditional Polish song Hey Sokoły:

"Hej, hej, hej sokoły
Omijajcie góry, lasy doły,
Dzwoń, dzwoń, dzwoń dzwoneczku,
Mój stepowy skowroneczku."

Lovely song!

Be careful of the word gadać- it seems to have different meanings in different regions. In some places it means to chat, in others to talk nonsense. 'Co ty gadasz?'

Here in Warsaw, maybe closer to the latter. Someone may be able to expand on this.

Nothing wrong with "gadać" . There is no different meaning between the regions . It just depends in what contex you use "gadać".

Like: Co ty gadasz? Means: What are you saying?/What are you trying to say?
Or: Co gadasz?/Nie gadaj. Means : What do you mean (by saying)?/ Don't say- really?
