I have seen this erroneously translated into English as formal attire. Isn't it actually business attire: suit, shrit tie, or for women frock?
In America formal means smoking (dinner jacket, etc.), semi-formal is a suit, and casual is anything goes.

stroj wizytowy is not business attire, and it's not formal attire as you know it in English
If you have 'frak' on the invite then you know it's formal attire - tails suit etc - for a big big do

Stroj wizytowy is semi-formal - black tie and evening dress for evening or cocktail dress etc during a day.

How a doctor or dentist should come to work. Outside he wears a medical smock or surgical gown (fartuch lekarski) but udnerneath he must wear strój wizytowy. I took this to mean the kind of attire officer workers come to wrok in. No company would reuqire any doctor to wear a coat and tails under his surgical gown!!!

Normal working clothes consist of standard work suit/shirt/tie for men, skirt/tro suit/ sometimes a dress for women. Usually.

Stroj wizytowy has got nothing to do with business/work clothes. Stroj wizytowy is being worn for out of work engagements - and not to work.
You going to a party, charity ball, friends birthday, dinner etc etc - then you wear stroj wizytowy. You going to your company's Xmas dinner - you can wear stroj wizytowy.

If you are a doctor - then you wear normal 'working clothes' as in the first sentence

There may be a problem with translation/understanding, but I can't imagine a doctor/dentist wearing 'stroj wizytowy' under his gown. Well, unless he's going to a party/dinner straight after work.

Therefore you are saying the original Polish text is wrong. That may well be the case.
