Tattoo - Stay strong - never forget

Ruthie   Aug 28, 2009, 02:48pm /  #
Hi there!

I was hoping for some help in getting the correct Polish phrase for a tattoo saying "stay strong but never forget", my family are Polish but have given me many variations without quite getting the meaning right. The never forget part is easy, its the "stay strong" or "forever strong" I need. I would be grateful for any help here, you dont want to get a tattoo wrong!

shouldn't it be "stay strong and never forget" ?

Your wording suggests that staying strong would cause you to forget.

1.on the contrary; yet: My brother went, but I did not.
2.except; save: She was so overcome with grief she could do nothing but weep.
3.unless; if not; except that (fol. by a clause, often with that expressed): Nothing would do but that I should come in.
4.without the circumstance that: It never rains but it pours.
5.otherwise than: There is no hope but by prayer.
6.that (used esp. after doubt, deny, etc., with a negative): I don't doubt but he will do it.
7.who not; that not: No leaders worthy of the name ever existed but they were optimists.
8.(used as an intensifier to introduce an exclamatory expression): But she's beautiful!
9.Informal. than: It no sooner started raining but it stopped.

PS. I think I'd trust my family over a bunch of random people on the internet.

You are absolutely correct, it should read "Stay strong AND never forget", my grammar is poor! Thanks for putting me straight! Now for that translation????
I do trust my family above and beyond all else but they can't agree on a particular translation and is causing a few arguments!

That depends:

Bd silny i nigdy nie zapominaj. - be strong and never forget (male)
Bd silna i nigdy nie zapominaj. - be strong and never forget (female)
Stj silny - stand strong ( male )
Stj silna - (female)

I don't think there's a better exact translation..

there can also be:
Trwaj silny i nigdy nie zapominaj.
Trwaj silna i nigdy nie zapominaj.
- which is actually an exact translation.. but I dunno if it sounds any better then these previous ones.

Bd silny i nigdy nie zapominaj. - be strong and never forget (male)

This version sounds the best and can be used by both a man or woman.
"Bad silny" (Be strong) is kind of addressing a human (czowieka).
It is a good version when you mean "be/stay strong and never forget"- ie your roots/past.

Post some pics when it's completed. That's kind of an unofficial rule here. Thanks,
