My ancestors named Blankinsee came from Potok, Prussia

annesack   Sep 28, 09, 00:36 /  #
My ancestors named Blankinsee were originally from Prussia, but when they moved to
England in the 1800s, there seems to be no records of them in England. They were
Polish Jews, so there could have been another spelling of their name in England as
Blanckensce or Blankensee. Tried all the different spelling of their name, but no result. The Blankensee family settled firstly in Bristol then moved to Birmingham where the family
manufactured jewellery and watches. They finally moved to the United States and settled
in Augusta, GA. Would love to have ancestry from Prussia in the 1790s.

The name Prussia in reference to the 18th and early 19th century is ambiguous. The Polish (until the first partition of Poland in 1772) part was called "Royal Prussia", wheras the original Prussian part was called "Duke's Prussia". What precisely would you like to know? The original surname of your ancestors or where the village of Potok (definitely a Polish name meaning "stream") is situated?

Blankinsee

Tried various options on this surname and can only assume the surname options are phonetic or somebody couldn't read the writing. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone by any of the options suggested.

blanckensee, blanckinsee, blankinsee, blankensee are all names.

There are one or two ship's records: from australia to the usa
A few mentions at facebook etc

So, the spelling seems good. play around with the above variations.

Did more research and found out that my ancestors called Blankinsee were from Posen. In
Polish the name is Prowincja(Province) Poznanska(town) and today it's Poznan Voivodship.
What I need to know is how to get in touch with the town to get information on my ancestors. Thanks for any help.

My grandfather Seymour Marcus Sylvester is a decendent of Mother Marinda Blankinsee
and Louis Sylvester. Marinda was the daughter of Isaac and Eliza Blankinsee. All three
Blankinsees were born in England in the 1800s. The father and mother of Isaac came from
Poznan Prussia, but I have no idea who they were. The Blankinsee Family all migrated to
the USA and settled in Augusta, Georgia. No records can be found in England
