COUNT AND COUNTESS DECROIX

I am looking for the DeCroix family that lived in Warsaw circa 1850-1900. I am looking for information. They lived in an estate near a beautiful park and hotel called the mirror lake hotel. They had 2 daughters. The father was french with the name DeCroix and his wife was polish descent. They were count and countess, with 2 daughters. Natalie and Josephine. If anyone can help me get information on any of this I would appreciate it. Or connect me with some who could help.

This Decroix has no relatives here. I know that the man married a polish woman. They then were count and countesses. They had 2 girls one Josephine born in 1887. Came to America around 1900s with sister Natalie. Josephine married Henry Trust. The Decroix mother died then the father before the turn of the century. Thats all I know.

I am planning a trip to Warsaw. Looking for their estate which was near a park and a hotel called Mirror Lake Hotel?? Before, late 1800s early 1900s.

I hope I can find a source when I get there. Gee any advice will be appreciated.

You may you will be hard pressed to find anything that existed before the war, other than those buildings rebuilt after it. The only thing that springs to mind is the Lazienki Park, but that belonged to the Poniatowski family.

Do you know the name of the woman of Polish descent - it might be easier to search that way. Most of Decroix family as I'm sure you know are in France or Spain.

The only thing that springs to mind is the Lazienki Park, but that belonged to the Poniatowski family.

They may have lived near this park, in that case they may have lived in Al. Ujazdowskie street, the street that opposes the park from the west. Once the street hosted many residences belonging to noble families (now it hosts many embassies, included the ugly American one which was erected on a place made free thanks to the barbaric demolishing of one such historic residence by the Yanks). But they may have lived near another park, including one which doesn't even exist today.

What seems to be mysterious is the name of the hotel: Mirror Lake Hotel. I can't think of any "jezior(k)o lustrzane" in Warsaw. Maybe "Morskie Oko" (Sea Eye)?

P.S. The Łazienki Park belonged to king Stanisław Poniatowski, but later became the property of the Russian Tsars; as soon as Poland regained independence, it bacame public property, I believe.

Thank you so very much for all the information. As to the mirror lake thing, I have just discovered that was incorrect and refers to another thing.

The problem is that I do not know the name of the wife, or the father. I wonder if I could find out more in the Churches. Perhaps the death of the father might leave some information as to the children left behind? I do realize the info. I have is sketchy at best.

I heard that their palatial estate was on a hillside.

Would there be any record offices that I could check out if I came to Warsaw next summer and if it could be attained in english?

hmmm, you can check it in GUS. I also associated with Morskie Oko, there are some residences for ex. at Dworkowa st, but I think it belonged to radziwill. There is also Palac Szustra, it's on the hill but I'm not sure, because it was...Szuster's palace.

It's very difficult, because most mansions were demolished during the war. Well, Warsaw was demolished in 90% at all.

Thanks so much. Perhaps I should be checking in a different way. Are there census records for the period of 1850 to 1900 anywhere in Warsaw or surroundings? Even information on French people living there at that time. I wish I had more names. I do have a picture of the count DeCroix but that wouldnt be of much use. There are no places that would have deeds of sale to properties or changing of ownerships?
I look forward to going there. I am a Canadian and live in Mexico City. I have been online looking at Poland beautiful. Thanks again.

Honestly I have tried to find on web side in record census

But i havent found Decroix. In GUS you should find more census from XIX century. it was done in 1875. somtheing like that. it was done the census of foreigners. maybe here you'll find

The website www.baza.archiwa.gov.pl mentioned by nana has reference to a De La Croix in 1864 but in Plock which was/is considered as in the Province of Warsaw. But can't find any reference to a hotel with reference to a mirror. There are many variants on the spelling of DeCroix maybe these need to be explored too.

I am also curious what GUS is. I've known so far that it is Główny Urząd Statystyczny (Central Statistical Office), but this doesn't keep census records, or does it?
