I have been learning the language and feeling a close tie to the Polish people and I couldnt figure out why. well now I know.I live here in Los Angeles and would love to be a part of some kind of Polish community. plus my ex husband was Polish.this is a great forum.

ROLF! I really like potatoes, do you think that's because I have Irish DNA?

Polish DNA??? There isn't any DNA specific to a particular country?

LAGirl,

You mean you just found out that you have Polish DNA after having been interested in the Polish culture and having had a Polish husband? That is so weird.

p.s. you should go to Polish festivals. There's a small one in Santa Monica every year. There are also some at the churches in L.A. and Yorba Linda and also at Alpine Village.

Yes :P McShelley

I believe they can trace your DNA back to specific regions in Europe

Hello LAGirl,
I am happy you are happy and I am impressed that you took the time to try and find out where you are from. And that you feel close ties with Polish culture and you are learning the language (I find the grammar difficult).
But a Polish DNA? I would be sceptical about that even being possible.
How much did you pay for the test?

Because i do not think you would be able to find a Polish gene, perhaps a central, gene but a Polish gene. It makes me think of a cartoon gene with a big Polish moustache. Polish people have been mixing for 10s of thousands of years. I could be wrong. It just does not seem right and I do not have a TV ha ha ha

Guys, there is a pool of genes which is typical for Slavic nations such as Poles, Russians, Ukrainians.

There is a thread about it in this forum.
http://www.polishforums.com/some_polish_people_dark_complected-4_6524_ 3.html

A citation from Mrhappy`s post:

In terms of Y-chromosome haplogroups the Poles are quite "Slavic". In other words, they are similar in this respect to the their ethnic kin in the east, the Russians and Ukranians. The most common haplogroup in all three nations is R1a - the dominant haplorgoup in eastern Europe. However, the Russians and Ukranians generally carry more of haplogroup N, which is seen most often in Finnic and Altaic populations. This suggests that the eastern Slavs absorbed Finno-Ugrian elements as they expanded east from their region of ethnogenesis.

Western European influence on the Poles via Y-chromosome haplogroups has not been great. Haplogroup R1b, most often seen in Celtic and Germanic populations, is found at levels of 7-17% in Poland. The typically Germanic I1a is even rarer, occuring at less than 6% in Poland as a whole.

In appears that the German, Dutch, Scottish, French and Italian migrants of the middle ages left a much lesser mark on Poland's population than previously thought. Invasions of Poland by Germans and Swedes also appear to have been rather minor influences on the present Poles' paternal makeup.

I took an mtDNA test and it was right on. The DNA tests are not all wrong. I even got exact matches with people who are from the same area as my maternal line. But we don't share any common ancestors which means we are probably related from way back.

Not really. 38 million Poles with their ethnic minorities, 52 million Ukrainians with minorities, about 150 million Russians with their ethnic minorities together make less than 250 million people. The world is populated by more than 6 billion people.

My advice would be to get a quick Lamb Rogan Josh instead. It's cheaper and tastier.

Guys I took the test through a family DNA lab and certain countries have a certain genetic dna mark so when they do the test certain marks from countries show up. I had just found out from a friend about dna testing and I had just had it done and found out. I thought that it was very interesting why I felt close to the Polish culture why. it might of sounded funny but it was a good guess why.

Wow, so I guess this is why you feel qualified enough to tell people Poland is not for them. You and Legion are similar, you know the majority of Poles and you represent the country whilst residing in the USA :) LOL

What's the problem... There are DNA tests, which show how one's DNA is similar to those most common in some regions...
