Does the name Boleslaw have an English equivalent?

Does the name Boleslaw have an English equivalent? I have been told it could be translated as William. Is that true?

i didn't think it was william too, but it says so on the internet, also it means large glory from a slavic origin

English equivalent is Boleslaus. In the US Polonia some people called Bolesaław were called Bill at work, and that is short for William.

Well, in the Detroit area, in the United States, in the early 1900s, Poles who americanized the first name Boleslaw often changed it to "Walter", not William.

I've seen this more than once when tracing relatives through different documentary sources like city directories, u.s. census records, and draft registrations.
