I'm not sure if the university can give out information on students like that depends what rules they have. If you know what university it is writing would be a better method in my opinion, or looking at the location and contacting the nearest county office. If you give the name someone may be able to find a place you can contact that could try to help. They would most likely have to find & contact the person first to see whether they wish contact with you.

Maybe try writing to the University <in Polish> asking them to pass on your contact details to the student, then wait for the person to contact you. That doesn't compromise anyone .

The university may pass on a message so that the decision to contact you back or not is his and his alone. Writing would be best. I'm sure someone on here can provide you with the best contact if you tell us the uni name.

Edit - slow again. Nice one Lir

I would like to trace my Grand Fathers birth certificate.

His name was Benjamin Marthinus Jewaskiewitz.

He was born in Polczyn Zdroj on the 21/04/1868.

He came to South Africa in 1870 at the age of 2.

He farmed in SA his Polish Birth Certificate was burned in a farm fire.

Who can I approach to trace his birth certificate?

People here can guide you through it. If you look carefully enough, sb posted guidelines (McCoy I think).
