Hello Everyone,

I am in need of assistance of locating a birth certificate from Poland. however, I don't know the name of the area of where this person was born. I have a name and date of birth. Does that help at all?

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I think you need to know the USC of the place where the person was born. Surely you must know the place? Once you that you can find the USC and write to them.

Thanks for responding. Can you clarify on what USC means?

what USC means

Urząd Stanu Civilnego - office of civil affairs.

In Poland each town has a USC that is responsible for registering stuff like births, deaths, marriages etc..

Each USC keeps their own records for something like 30 or 40 years (I really can't remember exactly) before they are sent to the county archives.

Without knowing the location you might be stuck.

I think that the county archives would be more appropriate for my search right now, especially if the USCs only hold records for 40 years. Do you have any idea as to how I would contact the various counties?

Again, I greatly appreciate the input.

Sorry I don't know. The only link I have is www.archiwa.gov.pl but the site is only in Polish and not particularly easy to use.
