Not looking so polish (Skabialka) how does one find out?

My grandparents said we were polish, but after looking at a lot of other names on here, mine doesn't look like it fits in. We have never found another family with our last name except ones we were related to. My brother said one time an uncle said our name might have been spelled (Skobiolko) how does someone go about checking on it when Poland is so far away.

First try google, then any other websites you can find, Facebook, gg, skype.
Skobiolko sounds Ukrainian, Russian, Latvian or may belong to Polish people who lived near the border with these countries.

There are two people surnamed Skobiałko liiving in the Białystok area of NE Poland. The o~a alternation is common in that area, where Ruthenian prefers to a and Polish -- the o.
