Hi my name is Michele!

I am looking into my family heritage. My grandfather and grandmother lived in Poland and came to the USA in 1951. Does anyone know where maybe I should look regarding relatives in Poland. Would love to find out about family. Thanks!!!!!

Hi Michele,

Welcome!

Let's start by you telling us what you do know, so we can help you. It's best to start from what you know and work backwards.

Such as their first names, where they lived, when they were born, names of their children, where they died, etc.

Hello there Grandesande!

Well grandfather's name was Eugene and grandmother's name was Gabriela. They both died here in the US. My aunt's name is Grazyna, my mom's name is Bozena and Uncle's name is Eugene. Grandparents were both born in Poland and I am trying to find out where there birthplace was. Misplaced birth certificates in storage containers that I have accumulated. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks......... Michele

Michele,

Do you know when they came to the US?, or where they lived here in the States?

Were your Uncle and Aunt here, were they married, and what was their surname?

I will try to find what I can on Ancestry, but I could use this added info.

Thanks, Grandesande

Grandesande,

Of course, they came to the US in 1951, I believe in July. They settled in Camden, NJ. Their Surname is Trzaskowski. My grandmother's surname is Szamlewska. They were buried in St. Joseph Cemetary, Blackwood, NJ. My grandparents were married but I am not sure where they were married. I know its not the US. Maybe Poland or maybe Germany. My aunt and mother were born in Germany and quite a few years back became US citizens and my Uncle was born here. I really appreciate you trying to help me out.

Regards,
Michele

Grandesande,

I don't have any information which is a disappointment. But you sure started the ball rolling. Where in Jersey were you born? Do you still live in Jersey? Are you polish? If you don't mind answering.

Michele,

I was born in Jersey City, and lived in North Arlington, Wallington, and North Plainfield. Currently, my family is in southern NJ and I am in northern California.

All four of my Grandparents are from Poland. I am currently trying to find their villages in Poland, also.

Are you in Jersey?

Michele,

Go to
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/ and type in the surname Tzraskowski
and click 'Szukac'. It will show you all the places where that name is located.
Then do the same for the surname Szamlewska.

If you compare the results, there are only two places that have both of those surnames: m.Bydgaszcy and Szczecin.

Perhaps both grandparents came from the same town/village and one of these would be the place?

HeyGrandsande!!!

I checked out the web site but you need to give me time to get my polish dictionary out and understand the site. But again YOU ARE AWESOME! I will let you know when I can understand what you are seeing. LOL Thanks a million.

I was born in Camden, NJ. Grew up South Jersey (Gloucester Township area). Right now I live in Savannah, Ga. Wow California. Do you visit home much?

Have you ever gone to Poland? I would love to go there 1 day.

Michele
